If you've ingesting the grounds directly you're probably getting a lot stronger dose of caffeine and other stuff than from brewed coffee so the worst that might happen is you get really jittery and heartburn.

You might look into getting a French press for the times you don't want to make a whole pot. They are cheap and once you get the hang of it you can make some damn good coffee with one.

I would guess a stomach ache would be pretty likely as well.

this reminds me a story a friend of mine told me on her roadtrip to Mexico.

So she's in the car with 2 other ladies heading south of the border. Next thing you know the car is overheating. They stop, prop open the hood, and half an hour later someone stops to help.

The guy hands one of the girls (my friend was still in the car in the back seat) a gallon of water and tells her to pour it in the radiator. So she starts pouring, except she's pouring it ON the radiator and the rest of the engine. DOH!

what you drank is called 'cowboy coffee' - back in the old days they just threw grounds into boiling water. YEE-HAW! they didnt have any fancy french presses or espresso machines on the open range. but there is a secret trick to keep the grounds out. before pouring just splash cold water on the pot of boiling coffee with your fingers. do that about 5 times and all the grounds will sink to the bottom. you will get a 100% grounds-free pour every time w/out the use of a strainer, a'la the french press. it really works...i swear!

i second the french press. i start everyday w/ mine.

When it was done brewing, my grandad would drop a small rock in the pot; this also worked, I have no idea how & why.

My lovely gf made a 8-cup pot this morning then left the kitchen...in a few minutes I hear cursing & commotion from downstairs. She poured the water in, got the filter & coffee ready, then forgot to put the pot back on the burner. Messy.

Maybe he's trying to drop the floater... or sinker.. or splatter.

Maybe he's just dropping corn. :p

I'm used to lots of coffee but 2 or 3 chocolate covered espresso beans are too much caffeine for me; can't imagine what a bunch of grounds would do.

You should just drink tea next time. Or maybe hot chocolate.

My Dad did the same thing while brewing a pot of coffee in his office. He is across the hall teaching a calculus class and a student knocks on his door and tells him water is running out from under his office door. Not much calculus was taught that day. :)
