I loved the idea of the trade. We traded an overrated talent who will take atleast 4 years to develop in to a good consistant NBA player for a proven winner who plays defense. However, I think we have overrated Battier. He is very average. He takes a lot of charges, but his defense isn't "shutdown" and his shot is inconsistant so far. I expect more out of him. He has a lot of time to prove his worth to us fans

I wish I had the talent to develop in 4 years as I start off 23/7 against Dallas in my first 3 weeks. :)

maybe rudy gay will turn out to be a much better offensive player than battier, maybe rockets did get owned in that trade, but battier's still a nice guy for the team on and off the court.

somebody said earlier that if shane helps rockets win championships he wouldn't mind if rudy gay turned out to be the next dr.j... i sorta agree with him....

but it is a bad feeling to give up young potential like gay.

Have you checked his game log. The guy only shows up to play against poor defenses. He'll give you 21 and 7 one night, and 2 and 0 the next four nights. I expect him to play that way all season. Not to mention his stats will be inflated because he is one of the only scoring options on that team right now. Stromile's numbers look good too, but we all know he's not a very good player. Also, In his first 8 or nine games he has ONE FREAKING ASSIST. That is terrible. Rockets need o win now. Gay wouldn't have helped at all.

Come on, enough with the BS! I know that most Rox fans will continue to deny it until the end of times, no matter how great Rudy Gay becomes or how 'regular' or subpar Battier looks...I know that it's easier to live in denial.

We were thoroughly and unquestionably raped by Jerry West (God darn the Logo!) in this trade.

You can try to look at it anyway you want, we were absolutely cheated in that trade.

So what do we do now?

Well, I choose to focus on what we got and how he played. Which I am doing and have done in the first ten games this season. I have already stated what I observed and what I believe to be the case.

Look, he's a 'serviceable' player, but not 'as advertised'.

    That's all I am saying.

    Denial...Depression...Acceptance ;)

I just don't think Rudy Gay is that good. Talented, yes. A good basketball player? no. He's soft, and we do not need another soft player. I know he's young, but let's face it, we have to win now, and Gay isn't a can't miss talent.

That said, I don't think Battier is that good either, but atleast he's not soft.

I'm thinkin' this thread is a red herring anyway...something to divert attention from the real problem of JHo, Reefer, and a coach with zero creativity.

Shane is a done deal. In this case, we get what we don't see.

Luckily, we still have a lot to work with.

    Aw Shucks! Thanks.

I would rather see a bench of Novak, Gay, and VSpan doing some damage - and Mike James.

The "win now" mentality translates to, or is = to playing NOT to lose.

Rockets are just going to have to get more fun and reckless.

How do you not think Rudy Gay is a good basketball player. He played pretty good Basketball tonight. Much better baketball than Shane Battier played. Like I have said earlier. We traded a mediocre player (stro) and a potential all-star for another average nba player. At least gay seems to have some kind of an attitude or fire in him. The rockets have no passion. Tmac never seems like he's into the game, Shane is never upset, Juwan Howard doesn't seem to care. The only guys I see any fight in are Yao and VSPAN. Yao cannot do this by himself, and because of their stupid coach, VSpan doesnt get to play. This whole team just doesnt seem like their into it this year like they have been in years past.
If we are in a "win now" mode, what exactly is Battier doing to help us win. I thought he was brought here for his great defense.... so far I havn't seen him shut down anybody. He's getting a few rebounds, a few points, but nothing that special that other nba players cannot do. His so called "intangibles" are pretty much nonexistant because I have not yet seen them this year. Now I dont think the losing goes on him alone. He has never been a great player and i didnt expect him to be. I though everyone was crazy when they were saying that he could be a 3rd scorer. Hopefully Shane will improve more as the season goes on. If he becomes a shut down defender this year I will be more than happy with him, even if he doesn' offer much else. All im sayin is that so far, I have not seen much from him

I agree about the JVG comments that people are making, it really is getting very annoying!! if tmac bricks a 3pt shot and a player misses a layup guess who get the blames!! u guyz need to get over it!!

This is all you need to know. Memphis is 1-8. Gay is shooting 34 percent from the field. He has 1 assist and 11 turnovers in 9 games. He's just not a smart basketball player right now. He doesn't have what it takes to help a team win yet. He would have been useless for us because we have to win now.

Gay has a lot of talent, but right now, that's only going to translate in to a couple of games like tonight(keep in mind his team still lost) and a whole lot of terrible games. I just don't think he's that good yet. Too inconsistant right now.

My point exactly. I love Shane and loved the trade. The guy is awsome but he had no business being within 5 feet of that guy when we are up by 4, gving any excuse to a ref to make that call

I agree that he has been inconsistent... but something to note is that his best games have all came when his teammates were having bad games. That would be so much more valuable to the Rockets than the invisibles Battier is bringing.
