I love @Codman's riddles. Makes for a fun read and guessing. The "formula" (Magic) and Weeknd (missing E) makes me wonder about Elfrid Payton. Would be able to play 3 positions on Rockets in backup roles and another playmaker.
None of those fit the bill as a "FreeBird" though except Tyreke. Unless any of those guys have a correlation with FreeBirds the burrito joint?
I thought about him too but he was playing regular minutes and as a starter lately so i left him out but who knows... And tbh, with MDA as coach, i really think Gallo should be acquired as a free agent this summer, i think we will definitely be on his short list, maybe even his preferred destination so, unless Denver is willing to trade him for fillers i'd like to wait this summer for him.
My guess was Lucas Nogueira, who earned the nickname "The Weeknd" up there in Toronto for the hair style; but, then again, Jahlil Okafor also has Weeknd-ish hair. Somehow I wonder if Codman alludes to a three-team deal in which we wind up with....whomever, maybe one of the guys I mentioned. And perhaps Patrick Patterson is the guy getting DNP's when he isn't actually hurt. If. Maybe. Coulda shoulda woulda.
It's going to get tougher for Harden to operate with ease in the playoffs. Lots of different defenders will be thrown at him. He will still be brilliant, but he is more likely to commit turnovers under pressure. No one else apart from EG, can create his own shot, and for others on a regular basis.
Codman means if morey is backing off Ibaka, then there's still depth on that team we'd want.. In other words, well go after Payton. Free birds have always referred to hawks, pelicans, etc.. Codman said we're not going to post season with just a healing Capela.. So Clint can't be the young guy with upside on the block "if it all goes through "...considering we'd get back a 1 or 4, and behind ariza there's only dekker and Corey.. I doubt Dekker is the guy either. My guess in that deal we get a 4/5 and Trez is the one gone.
Dude loves Beverley too, he's pretty much my favorite Rocket and the engine that powers our team, sort of like our version of Draymond Green except he isn't as tall and doesn't have an aversion to other men's testicles.
There's a good chance Capela gets traded by the deadline. Be realistic. Abel and Weeknd are references to Toronto. Look it up. We're not interested in Elfrid. We are interested in a big that can hold down the defensive paint and dominate the boards.
My first guess on Weeknd was Lucas Nogueira (it's even a nickname he picked up there). Still, Codman keeps referencing the Magic in some capacity or another ("Bunnies / Rabbits"; "whatever do you mean, Mr. Cod?"; "OK, Bunnies / Rabbits are part of a _____ show"....) and that we'll also go for another player at the 1. Hence all the Elfrid Payton guesses going on here.
Codman now explains that differently., maybe just adapting the word from last year. It was definitely more fitting last year and summer with all the attention to NOLA and ATL...and I do think he intended it that way. here's how he explains it now. Notice Nene was never on a Bird team.
We're obviously interested in Ibaka and another playmaking 1. But that's not Elfrid. Gary is a better player than Elfrid is. DJ or CJ please. Codman is referencing the Toronto situation. Poeltl is getting a start ahead of PPat and Sully. Id take Sully for cheap. Maybe Toronto is willing to move Jonas. Don't see the fit here though for Jonas. And Sully is not a great defender. So he's not really the answer in the middle. Better not discount Whiteside. Regardless of whether Miami continues to make a run or decides to tank they could move Whiteside. And Capela and another vet big man (koufas) might be enough to entice Riley. Then we insert Gordon in with the other starters and really roll with a small ball line-up.
