Yep. Of course we as fans of the team are gonna be homers in a way but history will remember him as an MVP who could never get over the hump and deliver when it counts. As JVG said, stats and numbers don't matter in losses. They only matter in wins. Harden has a lot of stats tied up in postseason losses, some of which have been apart of some classic choke jobs. It happens. MVPs without a title: Harden Westbrook Rose Nash Iverson Malone Barkley
Went to final in 1st r 2nd year I think..anyway he never had the supporting cast until Robert Horry, Sam Cassell was picked and Mario Elie was brought in.
For these last few years I always thought "Man if James just shows up in the big games and series...." But he did this series, he balled the f*** out. Averaged 35 ppg, only had one game below 30 pts the whole series (29 pts game 2, left with eye injury) and we still can't get it done. Part of it is definitely the opponent. But most of it is coaching and and offensive philosophy in late game situations.
I don't know, Morey is really going to have to pull something out of his hat this offseason. Maybe we'll luck up and catch the Pelicans being dumb and can package the rest of our team for Davis or something. I really don't know. The only guy I think that's in our realm of getting is Butler. Maybe the Lakers trade Lebron? I dunno man.
Man, I love James Harden too, I just can't trust him any longer. I love my little sister with all my heart, but she is a knucklehead, I don't trust her with a damn thing. Hope for the best prepare for the worst.
I know you’re frustrated but man the difference between legendary status and failure is often the make or miss of a bunch of role players. Harden was the best player on the court against the best team in the league. He needed his Mario Elie to hit the kiss of death. What if Paxson misses the 3 pointer in game 6 against Barkley’s Suns? Barkley probably wins a championship. Legacies are made with the help of other people. Harden was a rock this series, we just didn’t have enough. Again I’m not absolving him of blame, it’s just really silly to put it all on him.
We are as far away from a championship with this squad and cap situation as any bottom feeding team in the league. Whether we love or hate Harden doesn’t change this. We will have to rebuild at some point. Even if Harden retires a Rocket, he will retire. So the only question is if trading Harden now and getting a head start on the rebuilding process is worth the extra few years of quasi-contention that we would get with any realistic retooling we can do with Harden as the guy.
You can love him for what he’s done, but at some point have to admit that if he just showed better effort on boxing out, defending and a focus as well as that drive and will to take the team on his back that we would’ve won this game at least. He just doesn’t seem to have that. To really impose his will when stakes are the highest. It’s just a reality you have to accept from your best player. He can still win with the right group but to carry a team like Dream, MJ and others have, no. Expectations should be lowered but you also have to accept that an MVP candidate will be criticised more than others and that’s just what it is.
I will always love James Harden...hope he retires a Rocket with multiple rings, and a statue outside TC
I feel bad for James Harden. This organization sucks for wasting Harden's prime like this. Harden deserves to win a championship. No other top 5 players like Harden treated this way. Sign.
My first post ever to the best thread ever. Without The Beard Houston basketball wouldn't matter. He is the reason we care! I love you James Harden, you make my life more fun!
