Maybe the weather nerds can tell me if this is right or just psychological. But here in Florida it feels pretty cold when it's 40. I went to visit a friend in Denver, it was 40 at night, and wore a light jacket and t-shirt and felt totally fine. We both assumed Florida has more humid air which made the cold feel harsher.
Maybe if we lived in the same type of climate as you do we wouldn't think 40 was cold either, we'd be used to it. We don't, it's a tropical climate and to me anything below 50 is cold. I hate it. HATE IT. Summer and 100 degrees can't arrive here soon enough, then all the Yank's will be b****ing about our horrible humidity. I'll be sitting poolside or on the bay enjoying a cold one, chillin'.
lol, I moved from houston to illinois when I was 12...now 50's is shorts weather in the midwest... then again, anything above 70 degrees is too hot for me.
this is true dry cold weather like -10 on a mountain in vale will feel much less cold than a damp humid day around 25.
On the flip side, I remember being in Chicago during June a few years ago for the Blues Festival. It was a high of 80 degrees and they were complaining of it being a heat wave. My wife and I just laughed. 80 degrees is a beautiful early spring day here.
just commenting on how the same temperature can feel so different to people based on what they are used to. seems like "Houstonians" are a little testy about the cold weather. I'll be poolside myself this summer...
Seems like I would absolutely hate Houston. Anything above 75°F is too hot for me and I sweat. I hate sweat. As for cold, it depends. If there's no wind, I don't care how cold it is. 0°F is ok. If it's windy then 32 degrees is sometimes too cold. All in all cold>hot. 31st of december, 2007 here in Dublin was my ideal weather. I wish it was like that every day of the year. I miss snow though. Hayesfan's story reminded me how we used to go outside during school breaks during winter and play soccer on the basketball court with a layer of frozen snow on it. You could make a tackle and slide from half court to the goal. Good times...
I like it when it gets cold enough for a freeze in Houston. That way all the local news channels can repeatedly show the same clip from 1997 where that Explorer skid on some ice and went front first into a median.
Yea Houston has it's cold weather wussies, but here in NYC we have our wussies as well. It'll get to 60, and people here break out the scarves, ect... Maybe its a fashion statement...
It's a warm 27° in Columbus today. The snow sucks, and I blame this on Dallas. Completely. I think we are supposed to get about a foot of snow by tomorrow.
Pertaining to cold weather I'm definitely a wussie. That's why I friggin live in Houston! I had a movie date planned with my wife last night. Turned down tickets to Alan Jackson at the Rodeo and planned to Tivo the Rockets game. When it got cold and wet that night I said eff it and climbed into bed to watch the Rockets instead. Watch movies some other time when my nuts don't look like peach pits.
ya, totally. just a month ago, i walked in a 0 degree night with almost constant blowing snow. the wind chill was MINUS 30 degrees. i walked half miles to get home so i can watch ROCKETS on the internet. my parents were at friends house for Chinese new year's party. so i just let my car for them and walked home. by the time i got home, i was so cold, i almost passed out. by the time i felt normal again, the game was almost over.
Oh no! It's finally happening! What a bunch of 'tards. Go live in the NE for a while and then get back to me regarding what cold weather really is.
How we react to the cold is exactly how people in SoCal react to rain. It drizzles and the city of LA shuts down.
