You are right. Even though he didn't shoot well recently, I think Cat played very solid. We should keep him.
Just a random thought: The way I believe Cat has been progressing in his new role and the way Stevie has been the "scapegoat" or "regressing" (depending on which camp you are in) maybe some of us have been wrong all the time? Maybe the future isn't Yao and Stevie, maybe, its Yao and Cat?? Just a random thought... Stuart
He is kinda growing on me, which is a good thing... I believe he's trying to get with the program and his terrible passes to Yao shows it...He even takes it to the hole and makes more good decisions than bad... More love for the Rox...
I've thought that for a long time. Cuttino is better than Steve as a SG. It's a shame Cuttino doesn't get enough credit for being one of the top SG's in the league. The only better SG's that I know of are kobe, McGrady. Even Vince is debateable.
Now, let's get off the Cuttino schlong fest for just a sec... Ray Allan Michael Finley Allan Houston Lebron James Paul Pierce Corey Maggette Rip Hamilton Mobley is a good player, but to call him the 3rd best shooting guard in the league is stretching it...
Ray Allen and Michael Finly can score points, but you gotta look at the opposite side of the coin also, defense. Michael Finley is past his prime, Ray Allen is the #1 scoring option on his team. Allan Houston is overrated and his defense sucks. I'm not sure if Lebron is a 2 guard or a 1, I'm not counting him. Paul Pierce, yes you got a point, I forgot about him. Maggette, puh-lease you're talking about a Clipper here. Rip Hamilton, no i don't think so.
Before someone mentions Allen Iverson, I don't think he's better than Mobley. He's too small and he needs 30 shots a game to get 30 points, not to mention he makes a living off the refs. He's also the #1 scoring option on his team and Mobley has done his fair share of locking his ass down time and time again.
* Spitting pop out onto console, not out of habit, but as a reaction to above...* Anyways; I agree with some of what is being said in here. I particularly think that Cuttino has taken the bigegst advantage on defense of having an eraser behind him, though he is individually overrated in here. But there have been serious visible signs of progress, which is not all that true for some other players. I do, however, wish he would cease acting upon his seemingly insatiable need to try and prove that one man can beat 4 or 5 on occassion. When he does that, as he did again yesterday, it makes the other areas of progress seem a little more remote.
I cannot agree more.. the above cannot be more true than on a fastbreak or transitional fastbreak, when he seems to take it all by himself. It seems as if he does one of two things, shoots a three or misses some wild shot that results in the other team running the other way with only Mo Taylor or Yao back on defense. Stuart
At this point Cat is a better 2 guard than Steve is a 1. Part of that is because Steve is playing out of position. (Come to think of it, within a structured offense, I'm not sure what his position is ...............maybe free safety). Cat still needs to improve his shot selection, but he can definitely be an offensive force. And he brings tough D and heart every game. No question, he's adapting his game well and I'd hate to see him go. D R
How about this....Cat is my favorite Rocket. I wouldn't have said that even a year ago...but he has improved tremendously on defense, which I attribute entirely to effort. He is a better shooter. And judging from post-game interviews, he seems to truly care.
WOW....a Cat luv fest, and Smeg hasnt checked in yet? thats surprising.. I started checking over the opponents Cat has gone against this season...and I got to to a week before Chrsitmas before I got tired of the research... what I had found was that Cat normally limits his opponent to under their averages. His defense has been severely underrated this year..and Im glad to see some do appreciate what the gym rat with the quickest first step in the league is doing for us this year. I dont have the heart to defend Francis anymore...but I will continue to defend Cat until he gives me reason not to...
nice R2K my love for Cat is best left unspoken....... (sort of like the sound of one hand clapping) i am crushed now right by the hatred of this board for any of the rockets players and their abillity to turn on somebody at the drop of a hat.... i have come to conclusion most people here have never actually played competitive sport on any level...... and bewildered as to why a large chunk of posters here even bother watching the games, i thought professional sport was a form of entertainment..... i know when i want to be entertained i don't continually go to a play, movie, gig if all i do is complain about it.....all they do is look for are mistakes, errors and seeemingly get a hell of satisfaction and enjoyment when they lose...... i am defeated i love the game of basketball, i love Houston, i love the rockets and i love all the rocket's players warts and all and will continue to enjoy watching their games hoping they continue to get better and will really enjoy it when this will result in more wins and playoff appearances.... perfection they will never acheive but they will continue to get better.....
Besides Cat and JJ, this team has no heart that is why I can't stand watching them play anymore. If the game is close, the rockets will lose 9 out of 10.
Ever hear of the one armed man who went fishing? He caught a fish this big. (holds out hand) Since this is about Cat... Ever seen a cat fish? How did he hold the pole?
Thank you Smeg--I know that everybody else jumped on this post too, but it's damn good. Sometimes I wonder if these people even find room to love the Rockets between b****ing spells... To stick with the thread topic, is anyone else impressed by some of the passes that Mobley has made recently? I'm not going to say that he's one of the top three 2 guards in the league, but I will say that he's the most underrated of the 2 guards mentioned.
