Maybe so, it still doesn't justify government mandates and violation of the constitution. The argument is not about the effectiveness and morality birth control itself.

You would have an impossible case to make considering women are legally equal, and protected under the law making the oppression cultural. Not to mention you quote doesn't fit because it would actually be "Give me ________ or I will kill our baby"

I just don't see abortion as a gender equalizing tool at all.

    a fetus aint a baby.

seriously, with all the problems facing our country right now these kind of arguments just seem petty...blatant pandering to right-wing religious fanatics/american taliban. that or a diversionary tactic to keep us from thinking about things that actually matter.

i wish, for example, that all these people who are so worried about employers being "forced" to cover birth control were as concerned when the pentagon admitted they "lost" $2.3 trillion. or the $8 billion/year we spend on the TSA. or the billions/year we spend giving military aid to all these other countries. or the billions in taxpayer dollars that wall street and all these multi-national corporations got.

the article in the OP is the one to blame by wanting to avoid even any semblance of common ground in a debate that was legally settled 40 years ago. Her "idea" is beyond dumb because it ignores that most women find abortion much more stressful than any similar medical procedure. She is just an activist wanting to keep the fight and hate alive.

Says you.... by fiat. How sure are you? Killing a pregnant woman is a double homicide is it not? A fetus is a baby not a pawn.

How harsh is it to call concern for an innocent life petty?

Do you consider Santorum's wife's aborted fetus innocent?

you missed the point. unwanted pregnancies are dumb and offensive, and they cause a lot more problems then ruffling your moral feathers.

Mrs. Santorum did much worse than that. She lived in sin with an abortion doc for years before marrying Rick.

That would be like saying that buying home owner's insurance is like buying a house.

as Judoka pointed out, that logic doesn't compute.

Would you force a employer to pay for someone's home insurance?

But anyways... health insurance is not really true insurance, it is a mislabel:

"The sole rational purpose of true insurance is to protect the insured from an unanticipated economic loss so large as to jeopardize his economic well-being. No one sells or buys insurance to cover the cost of maintaining his property. Home insurance does not pay for plumbing repairs; automobile insurance does not pay for replacing worn-out windshield wipers. Yet people demand precisely this kind of reimbursement from so-called health insurance.

Everyone knows but no one admits that health insurance is not really insurance. In fact, Americans now view their health insurance as an open-ended entitlement for reimbursement for virtually any expense that may be categorized as “health care,” such as the cost of birth-control pills or Viagra. The cost of these services is covered on the same basis as the cost of medical catastrophes, such as treatment for the consequences of a brain tumor. Such distorted incentives produce the perverted outcomes with which we are all too familiar.

From a public-health point of view, the state of our health is partly, and often largely, in our own hands and is our own responsibility, even if we have a chronic illness, such as arthritis or diabetes. It is an immoral and impractical endeavor to try to reject that responsibility and place the burden for the consequences on others."

It should be legal to abort an unwanted child until they quit leaching off their parents like parasites.

I played on nothing about irrationality.

I made no comments on women and their reproductive decisions and I won't do that. There's no point in it because these threads always go the same way.

All I did was find it amusing that the author contradicted herself and made a joke about it.

    Get over yourself.

That's obviously false. Health insurance is a misnomer that has been replaced with the term health coverage. In a group plan costs will rise. Not rocket science.

This is just one of those issues I don't see a point arguing over. Neither side will ever convince the other.
