The crazy FA market makes this a bad buyer's time. It's just the reality we have to accept. Maybe it's prudent to wait out the CBA and see what happens next year.

As for the PG thing. I haven't seen Lue and Gaines games enough to judge. My only impression of Lue was when he played against Iverson in 2001. He seemed to be a good defensive player. Are they serviceable to man the PG position? We'll see.

I don't think Ward is any better than Lue at this point. Why would you want a guy for only a year or two and is not a significant help? Well, if it's just the minimum, I guess it wouldn't hurt.

I still think a good defensive-rebounding backup 5/4 is more important than getting a starting PG. Is it possible to trade some offense (Mo) for some defense at the front line? Are there teams out there desperately need some scoring at the 4 that they are willing to part with a solid banger?

If we stay put this offseason as is now, I won't be too disappointed. But it sure would be nice if we can at least fill one of the two holes.

Sorry you misinterpreted my earlier post as a mere "whine" but that simply is NOT the case here. The gist of my argument IS that I'm perfectly willing to be patient BUT that I want to see evidence that this team and organization has somehow learned from the mistakes made in the past. I don't believe that just because they signed T-Mac that they should now stand back and watch he & Yao play 2 on 5 basketball next season while trying to make do with what they have on the roster knowing all the while that this team is still in need of good personnel.

Nor do I want to continue to see the same old bumbling and stumbling from the Rockets organization - the bad drafts (too late for this year), stupid contracts (too many to go into now) and bad FA pickups that do nothing to advance this team's fortunes. All this manages to do is waste time and effort and we Rockets fans have seen more than enough of that scene. For years now, fans of the Rockets have seen their patience and trust in this organization squandered because of ineptitude of the front office and it's time for that to end.

YEARS have gone by since those 2 wonderful championships. And once again the Rockets find themselves hitching their fortunes to that of a star player. I too think it's the right thing to do but this time MUST be different. This time they have to do MORE. And they have to do it better and smarter than they ever did before. Siting around patting yourself on the back for landing T-Mac may be enough to make you feel warm and fuzzy all over but reality dictates that there is much more left to be done before we can start feeling good about this team and organization. They still have much to prove and it is WELL within the bounds of reason for us to expect that this process should take considerably less than 10 years.

BTW, did you even read my post? Where did I say that I wanted them to throw money around or that I expected them to "win" a championship "every" year? I just don't recall making those points at all...

No surprises here, as always when some fan discontent starts brewing, Jeff would come out of the woods kissing and licking Leslie's rear end... What bothers me is that I contribute money to Clutchfans, thinking of it as an independent site, only to find out again and again that it's crew members would time after time go the extra mile to defend the owner and management for screwing us over.

D-Fish wanted to come here, D-Fish is clutch, D-Fish's been there done that, D-Fish is a nice guy. Not paying the money to get D-Fish is indefensible, no matter what Jeff and the other management shills from cf.net would like to tell you.

    Peace!

Peace?? That seems a bit of a misnomer, doesn't it?
That sounded more like the German guns opening up on Poland in 1939.

contrary to what some have posted here, ward's comments weren't anti-semitic at all. they were bascially criticizing the history of the jewish religion in relation to christianity. now, the comments may have been inappropriate and silly to vocalize, but they weren't racist (as the term "anti-semitic" suggests race/ethnicity of jews rather than the jewish religion).

now, if you call his comments racist, then you might as well consider rasheed wallace and bonzi wells the enemies of white people everywhere.

Your post was articulate and meant well ...
However ... other than throwing money around ... what were the moves that you expected the Rockets to have made?

9 out of 10 recent contracts around the league have been over-paid ...

Patience being a virtue has more than 1 meaning ... In the past year alone, we got rid of many bad contracts and bad players ... You can't expect us to correct all past mistakes in one fell-swoops?!

Further more, if we don't shackle ourselves with riciculous contracts now, we will have the luxury of getting better deals later, and I do believe we will get a couple soon enough.

I wouldn't go around and cry the sky is falling until at least by the time the season starts!

I'm certainly no shill for the government of the Rox. I wanted DFish. He was my #2 choice (behind BBarry). I think his contract reflects what a GS has to do to attract someone like him. It was a rotten contract. I don't blame the Rox for passing on that. (Or the Lakes or the Sonics or the Heat either.)

Ostertag? That I would like to understand. But not DFish.

    What the hell?

    management shills?

You're going to go to start a war, unprovoked, by personally insulting people over Derek Freaking Fisher?

That's nearly as stupid as giving him a 35 million dollar contract and is something that you and Golden State will likely regret...

How can we assume that the Rockets made no attempt to Ostertag? How can we assume that he would have chosen to play for us instead of the Kings. With Chris Webber back for the full year (they got used to playing without him last year, and had a hard time when he came back), and with Bobby Jackson back in the lineup as well, I'd say the Kings have a better shot at the title next year than we do. Maybe Ostertag just wants a chance to get a ring -- now.

What a relief to hear some logic. THANKS Jeff. I have used the BBS as my source of breaking away from the realty of work, et al. However, over the past month, it has been such a let down. Blah Blah Blah, we should sign him or him, what are the Rocks doing, fire CD etc. Frankly, I felt that I wasted my time getting the new "insights" from the "fans"

In short, THANKS Jeff for putting things back in perspective.

I agree with your post Jeff. It's not time too panic, but our roster looks too damn similar to the worst team in the NBA last season + Yao.

The west is stronger than I've ever seen it. We may not even go to the playoffs, with our current roster. We'll see how they gel.

I have to admit, I'm a little dissapointed so far.......but hey, the season doesn't start until the end of October. Who says we won't have both a PG and backup center by then.

Miami appeared to be the worst team in the whole NBA thru November. They traded 3 of the 4 best players for Shaq. Now they are many people's choice to win it all.

So, add Yao to last year's Magic. Add JVG. Voila -- hope, lots of it.

Ugh, many people have gone through this over and over. But since I'm not in the mood to repeat it again in elaboration.

Lue, T-mac, Juwan in Orlando does not= Lue, T-mac, Juwan in Houston.

I disagree with what Kayman is saying. I've said all along that the Rockets should wait until the market has been re-adjusted instead of being caught up in this bubble.

However, he brings up a legitimate point -- that there is a valid fear of falling tantalizingly short. And if we do fall just short, then is it not the responsibility of the Rockets management?

In any case, though, Jeff should be secure enough about his basketball knowledge to defend himself. Or not even have to defend anything. I'm not sure that knee jerk sarcasm and ridicule accomplish anything.

"There are Christians getting persecuted by Jews every day. There's been books written about this -- people who are raised Jewish and find Christ, and then their parents stop talking to them."
"Jews are stubborn. Tell me, why did they persecute Jesus unless he knew something they didn't want to accept? They had his blood on their hands."

-- Charlie Ward, quoted in the New York Times Magazine, April 22, 2001

"Blood on their hands" sound pretty anti-semitic to me. And I'm an agnostic.

Im gonna have to very strongly disagree....

Nowhere in his post did Kayman bring up anything even approaching a valid point...

We are not even 2 weeks into the free agent signing period...and trades can happen at any time....the season doesnt even start for another 3 months or so......

so why in the name of god almighty should we be panicking over unfilled holes?

why in the hell does anyone have a right to jump all over a respected member of this community for asking for patience?

Kayman is a classless PUNK for doing that....and should rightfully be ostrasized for his comments.

    period.
