i just read this...i'm so glad you are okay! reading this makes me think of my brother. he doesn't take the best care of himself food, exercise, sleep wise and i know it worries my parents. he's 29 and still lives like a teenager. i'm going to tell him i read this so hopefully he is more careful. my uncle who is 68 has had 3 strokes so all that stuff runs in the family. this may be a silly question, but what is the difference btwn a seizure and a stroke. i think they are similar besides seizures come with convulsions. are the causes similar? sorry, i'm a bit health knowledge challenged. thanks.
Okay, I will unlurk for this as well. Glad you're doing better, and survived round one. Wishing you no more rounds. My suggestions are get rest, eat right, and I hear that "Blues is a healer." But only in that order from now on, okay?
Best wishes, Tex. Enjoy listening to you play...wouldn't mind hearing you keep at it for 30 more years or so.
We ain't kids anymore Tex. Glad to hear you are ok. It's tough to change those bad habits at first, but as you get used to it it isn't so bad You will certainly feel a whole lot better, I know I do.
UPDATE Visited my doctor yesterday and he pinpointed what caused everything. He's been my doc for 4 years and has known me since I was a teenager. An absolutely wonderful man and a fantastic doctor. If any of you Houston based posters need a great Primary Care Physician, shoot me an email and I will send you his contact info so you can see if he is on your plan or not. Sooooo, here's the deal.... I have an issue when I get a chest cold in which fluid builds up in my left ear and closes off the ear (makes me temporarily deaf in my left ear). This has been going on for the last 5 years or so, and I've had to have my left eardrum lanced a couple of times because of it. Not fun!! My doc had prescribed an anthihistamine called Zyrtec for it that was working fine. I ran out and got it refilled about 4 months ago, but the pharmacy refilled it with Zyrtec-D instead, which has a big healthy dose of decongestant (Sudafed) in it as well. Trouble is, they never changed the dosage directions, so when I got the flu three weeks ago, little did I know that I was pumping a dangerous amount of Sudafed into my body. If you look at a package of Sudafed in the grocery store, each pill has about 30 mgs in it, and the directions say no more than 3 in a 24 hour period. More than that can cause blackouts, dizziness, etc. Each Zyrtec D pill has 90 mgs of Sudafed in it, and I was taking one every 12 hours....for nearly three weeks! So there you go. He put me on a new protocol for my left ear that does not involve prescription medication. As a precaution, my Doc also put me on some anti-seizure meds for the next two weeks, and I'm not allowed to drive (In Houston?? yeeeah RIGHT!!) for a couple of weeks until I see the neurologist he recommends. I'm confident that he nailed it with this Zyrtec-D thing and that I'll be cool. I just have to go through the motions they set up, which, after a couple of days in the hospital, is no big deal to me at all. Needless to say I am very relieved that this is what caused it, and I took my folks over to Kenny & Ziggy's last night for a soulfood dinner to celebrate. So there you go! Thanks for all of your well wishes and prayers. This is an amazing BBS with amazing people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW. I just barely noticed this thread today. I said: "NooOooOooo...!!!!" Swear to God. Swear to God i did. Man, that's not cool, turning out looking like someone's mom. jk. You mean you will still play at Mr. B's in the future? Will you still be singing the blues? But can you still play the accordion? Ramon Ayala may need a good guitar player soon, I hear. I am glad you're better. I'd hate to take silly-looking pictures of myself with someone else as my second voice. I really like the way you and your band sounded like it was the original Journey recording. Don't mess it up, man... be good to your body. Alternate hands...
