i could call him and ask..hold on...Lowe's Vanderbilt Hotel... but they're not there anymore...off to soundcheck he said.
Holy crap. This is one of the coolest moments of my life. There's nothing like meeting one of your favorite "idols" (thanks DaDakota, shoulda figured you'd be the pessimistic post, but even you can't bring me down...) and discovering that they're nice and genuine people. Leroi comes up, starts signing, gets a phone call, answers it and tells whoever is on the other line that he's going to have to call him back after he meets some great people. He proceeds to sign autographs, joke with people, and take pictures with fans, myself included. Carter comes out and does the same. Didn't get a chance to meet Boyd or Stefan, but this has been a great experience already. Plus, we got to meet two great people who we're gonna hang out with tonight and are already planning a road trip to Houston next year for the show. This is awesome!!!
Yep, I love the fact that they each bring so many different influences to the table. Many times they do it in the same song. And it works. Also, the guys are just amazing players. Amazing. I don't really dig "jam-bands" like Grateful Dead or Phish. It's too self indulgent for me and it gets so monotonous to listen to IMO. DMB comes from a more groove oriented place. I have the Carter Beauford DVD and he talks about how great it is working with Dave because he encourages the guys to put their own personal touch into his songs. You put all their skills and influence into a pot, stir it up, and out comes one hell of a song. And one hell of a band. EDIT: Holy crap, RM95! That's freakin' amazing!
RM95 just called me, and said he was lying about this whole thing, and not to tell you guys......but I just had to let the cat out-o-the-bag. Sorry for the trauma Mad Max.
Far out, Rm95. Sharing time with those you celebrate is the cornerstone of the League of Appreciation.
madmax.. exactly what i thought! I park my car there so I have a valid reason for being in and out of that hotel so I see celebrities there all the time. I saw someone walking on the sidewalk in front of the hotel with a billboard shirt on that looked like he should be someone famous lol but the buses were gone so I figured it wasn't anyone. I don't know how I wasn't thinking about this before. Every star stays at that hotel (this is the hotel i mentioned in reference to the titans in other thread) that comes through here but I wasn't thinking the other day about the fact that they would probably be there today. Those buses were not there yesterday I don't think so I need to check back late tonight after the show... maybe catch them when they come back in... Theres a chance the billboard guy and another person i saw with like sharpies hanging from chains on his pants were part of them.. I don't know that I could recognize them with complete certainity on the street and dont' want to walk up if i'm not sure its them! rocketman95 was at loews.... I'll have to check my vehicle for scratches
This is so weird. I just got a call from RM95 too. But it turns out I could not help him out with bail.
Well, the funny thing is, I finally saw Dave, jaywalked across the street, then told the cop to "**** off", Dave Matthews is right over there. I thought I'd learned my lesson.
rocketman95.. are you joking or did they actually say something to you about jaywalking? oh and just curious.. do you remember what like kind of shirt dave had on or anything.. if that was him I saw but wans't sure about. i will be upset!
Great story...I'm so envious. How was the concert?? I say we charter a bus and start the CC.net DMB Road trip next tour!
Thought the show would be anti-climatic after this afternoon, but I was wrong. My 16th DMB show was my best.
rocketman95.. if she show is over now maybe I shall check out loews. the buses werent' back when i was just there a few minutes ago... I cant' belive i wasn't thinking about it earlier or I would have told you..... as soon as MadMax mentioned it I was thinking.. must be the loews! i've seen kid rock and clay walker (go texans!), and everyone else in that hotel.. I hope you were treated well at the loews.... like I said I park there and those afternoon valet guys are pretty nice guys so it's cool that they didn't mind you waiting.. and did someone really harass you about jay walking..?
That's a cool story. I'm a fan of DMB, not quite as big as our resident Dancing Nancies, but I've got all their albums starting with Under the Table. None of the live stuff. Anyways, that's great that you got to meet a couple of the band members. BTW, have we ever been able to do a "Name your favorite song" thread for DMB where only one song per poster actually gets mentioned? Let's try again. #41 is mine.
