I like Calvin Murphy a lot, and although I hate to do it, I have to agree with you about how he sometimes comes off on his radio show. :( The big difference is this though...when he is talking about BASKETBALL and KNOWLEDGE of the game on his show, he is just like he was as an announcer, GREAT! But when he gets off track and talking about any and every old thing, then he really can funk it up a bit. That's why he and Bill were such a great team together. Their chemistry kept things balanced, him from getting too carried away and Bill from being too boring.

So although I think he should either end the show or just stick to basketball analysis, I still want to see him back on the sidelines broadcasting during games instead of Clyde and Matt...those two make me want to puke...although I think they are both cool people.

Even with basketball analysis, he'll say some really cooky things. Before last season, he actually suggested that Luis Scola would get minutes at SG for us because he can shoot the ball. WTF!? Might as well say that Yao can be our PG because he pulls off a flashy pass now and then.

I have run in to him twice. Once when I was a kid at a bowling alley down in Sugar Land, I got his autograph and my friend who didn't have the balls to ask cried because he didn't get one cried so I gave it to him (that was stupid) and the second time at the gas station near Toyota Center right after a game about 3 years ago.

Both times he was exceptionally nice and cordial sharing a short conversation with me. He made me feel like we knew each other even though we didn't, and that is a rare quality among any human out there. He is a very kind guy who is gracious to his fans and whom I too miss the hell out next to Bill Worrell. I understand why the Rockets let him go but I feel like enough time has passed and he deserves a chance to come back. He wasn't convicted of anything and it seemed like he really was being slandered by his children for the sake of getting some cash. I at least hope that is the truth.

Anyway, to sum it up, Great Guy, Hope he comes back to the Rockets.

That is a pretty cool story. I can't make my own threads yet so I thought maybe I'd post it on yours now that I have the opportunity.

When I was about 16 or 17 years old I went to see my Mom at her job while she was working at Southwest Christian Church in the day care center and walked past a short black man. Also had to do a double take and see that it was Calvin Murphy. I didn't say anything cause I think that he had his daughter with him (more than likely picking her up) and i don't like to disturb celebrities while they're with fam. Well anyway I went over to my Mom and asked why she didn't tell me that C Murph went to our church and she said that she didn't know that it was him. I didn't get a chance to speak to him but would have loved to.

Also another time I was in high school at Alief - Taylor and I found Rashard Lewis walking our halls he gave me an autograph on the nurses pass I was carrying and went on his way. Of course I told him thanks and everything I think he was just checking out our school cause it was brand new.

I'm not trying to out due you or anything I just wanted to share my experiences with H Town celebs also.
