If you have been catching the games this year, you probably noticed that he is not a very good fast break player either. He also can't play defense. Can we please trade this guy before everyone else figures out how bad he sucks.

Fast break? Pick and Roll? Pass to the Back Door Cutter? There are a lot more ways to get assists than just an ISO penetration, unfortunately Francis can't perform any of these tasks worth a damn.

Sam, we're all aware of the offense we run. Steve isn't going to have many 10-15 assists nights, but when he turns the ball over because he's being fancy or calmly walks the ball up the court while everyone is waiting for him or is indecisive and over dribbles the ball until 2 secs. left on the clock...in other words when he's himself, he doesn't give himself a chance to get any assists and looks like he doesn't give a damn about his team in the process.

Our point guard should NEVER have 1-2 assists nights with triple or quadruple the number of turnovers. He just shouldn't. Not with his experience.

Yep. That way Francis can spend time doing things that he's good at. Scoring.

Do we really need a PURE pg?

Lakers didnt have pure pg during their championship run. Tony Parker is also a scoring pg. We all know that Yao is not as good as shaq and duncan at the moment. Maybe we just need to give more time to our coach and players to develop our skills and strategies?

PURE PG does not mean that they can't score or shoot.

It's just that they are competent in the PG postion and all that it entails.

Parker is a scoring PG, but he IS a PG when it's all said and done!!! That's the difference. Francis is a scoring SG playing the PG position.

By the way, the Laker's only needed a PG that could hit the outside shot. A team has the luxery when they have Shaq/Kobe on your team.
Fisher was the man for that job. Just like K. Smith.

Okay, I have wasted like 10 minutes of my work time reading this thread but there were some classic posts in it, nonetheless!

I thought about starting a thread here (only to see if it would be a 1 star one:p ) on how many mulligans are we going to give Francis? A mulligan, for those of you not familiar with the term, is from the sport of golf and it means to give someone a free shot after they had made a bad one.

Yet, seeing Dakota's thread and another one in this forum about the lack of progress of Francis, I will have to save that thread for another time.:D

But I can't say that I disagree with much of anything in this thread other than that some of you are dreaming if you think we can get a Nash or Van Exel for Francis.

I have said this in the past, but Francis is just not a true PG and this is something that you just don't obtain one day. You are either born with the skills to play the position or not. I honestly believe that of all the positions on a basketball team, a point guard is the toughest one to learn. You definitely have to have a sharp mind to play it because, you are in essence, the quarterback of the team. Francis has never struck me as someone who has a great basketball mind, so it has been unrealistic to expect him to flourish as a point guard. Let him use his athletic ability as a 2. We need a cerebral point, not someone who is interested in stats or pimping his new record label (or whatever the hell it is) in "ISOH".

It is very sad when you find yourself pining for a Matt Maloney type player, but this is what the Rockets have become for me. Thank God that I have been so busy with work and school that I have not really gotten the chance to see many games this season. Reading about the games here is enough to make me know that I would be smashing some TVs if I actually had gotten the chance to see the games as they were happening.

And someone mentioned that it took Jordan like 6 seasons to win a NBA title. Well, I am pretty sure that MJ was reaching the playoffs by his 2nd or 3rd seasons (hell, he might have made it his rookie season). Granted, he was getting beat by Bird's Celtics and later Isaiah's Pistons, but at least he was reaching the playoffs.

Francis has entered his 5th season and the guy has still NOT made the playoffs. The days of giving him a free pass and all kinds of excuses are OVER. Whoever he has blackmailed with the Rockets, whether it is CD or Les or someone else, needs to grow a pair and ship his ass out of here.

I would love to eat my words, but it seems like every season, it is the same ole stuff with Francis.:(

I don't think we need a pure PG, but we do need a smart one. Anyone with playmaking ability would do the trick. I have yet to see any strong signs that Francis has the ability to be a playmaker.

We used to think Kenny was a scrub but his career number is looking pretty good now, compared to Steve's:
    --------------- MPG FG% 3P% FT% REB APG TO PPG
    Kenny's career: 29.3 .490 .407 .857 1.90 5.2 2.09 12.63

    Steve's career: 39.4 .437 .355 .796 6.30 6.3 3.70 20.0

    Steve's 03 -04: 38.7 .421 .302 .823 5.90 4.7 3.75 18.5

Are you joking? That would be wonderful, the problem is that he drives the lane and DOESN'T pass, instead he throws up some wild shot and hopes the refs bail him out. If he would drive and dish, create easy baskets for teammates, you think people would complain? What are you smoking?
