Yeah, it's not Morey's fault the Magics GM made a stupid decision and nothing guarantees Houston offered all that was mentioned from "various sources"!
EXACTLY. That's why I loved his all or bust strategy. Either we get Dwight or we're rebuilding. Both are fine with me. Finally the team has a direction other than maintaining our mediocre status. A lot of people think this is a precursor to a possible Kevin Martin trade. We shall see.
I think it all boils down to one question: Has Morey accomplished what he has set out to accomplish? We're usually pleased with the trades that he has made. But where have they gotten us? We like how he's put himself in position to get star players, but he's never been successful. You can point to Stern vetoing the Gasol trade and how we had a better package for Dwight than the Lakers, but as time goes on you have to stop making excuses. Now, that doesn't mean that it's necessarily time to get rid of Morey. But looking at the big picture, he's been here 5 years and no progress has been made. It's perfectly legitimate to wonder if he's actually capable of realizing his vision.
I am not sure of that. Morey said he still think it will be a team that can compete for a playoff spot.
careful cannonball… sunshine pumpers say it is wrong to criticize Morey before the season starts… BUT.. it's perfectly ok to call him a Masterful Wizard of a GM before the season starts… just face it.. No matter what Morey does, they will ALWAYS make excuses.. it's fine.. i don't like what he's doing.. but i still cheer for the rockets either way.. i guess in another 3 years we will see the fruit of his labor..
Morey is going to fail every time then. I don't mind him failing at getting us a superstar but he also sucks at rebuilding. Mediocre rebuilding. Cut scola, still have Martin, sign Asik to 8 million, "valuable" expiring contracts expire.
so, morey was making a huge mistake by trying to get rid of those amazing rookies in the first place right? eh, i give up. good day.
Houston has a lot of young players for the future .. If Dwight Howard does not want to come to Houston no one can make him. Its not morey fault..
Did I ever say that? If we got Dwight, we got a future hall of fame center, one year rental or not. If we didn't, we still have a bunch of "amazing rookies" that could be something special. What exactly did Morey go wrong here that ticked you off? Killing your dog?
We need to go after B level stars in order to trick managers into taking them... aka afflalo and herrinton.
Didn't a bunch of people including Hollinger write that Hennigan really had nothing to do with the trade and it was an Alex Martin decision? Also, to the people STILL criticizing the Carlos Delfino signing, like many posters already said, they needed a veteran presence to help out the rookies.
I have to believe Morey was given a chance to up his offer and refused, so I think it's appropriate to blame him to a certain extent. How much so is a question of what it would've taken to get the deal done.
