Dana Brown saw him last Spring Training. Decided Blanco was a starter, and liked him in the rotation after mechanical changes. Blanco then was slapped around some and the buzz died down. Blanco added a change up (thank you Miller) and made the rotation as the final player. He has had as good a season as possible this year early. I wondered if the Rangers would adjust after the no hitter. They did make some chamges, but they still didn’t hit him. Lets see how it goes - but Brown deserves some credit for Blanco.
I have to admit, I am suprised by this. I saw Blanco in early September in AAA and he was gassed in the 5th inning. I didn't think he had it in him to be a starter and to go this many innings as he has in these games.
Well he didn't have a change up before. Now his change up looks like Mike Scott's split finger. That will definitely change your trajectory as a major lesguer.
That changeup is filthy compared to his fastball. His fastball is at the top of the zone or above the zone and the changeup ends up at the bottom of the zone or below. They look like the same pitch coming out of the hand. Can't wait until pitching ninja does an overlay of it. There is also a 9 mph difference in speed. It also looked like he had an changeup slider going on where his changeup had some horizontal movement that looked like his slider
The changeup has been everything. His mediocre and hittable fastball looks a million times better with the timing issues it creates.
How long till "Cambio" starts trending on twitter? As much flack as ESPN should get for their god-awful baseball coverage... I did enjoy the mini featurette they did on Cambio.
Man you called Hunter Brown. Looks like he would best be used as a reliever after being sent down to get himself together.
