He's playing twice the minutes he used to play. How could his numbers not go up? He won't ever be an efficient 15/7/5 guy. Looking at his skill set I can assure you of that.
Yea because 6 games was a great sample size. T-Mac in 35 games last year on one leg is shooting better than this guy. They simply need to take the ball out of this guy's hands. I have seen no progress of him becoming a better scorer/creator.
Ariza fixing strategy: 1.) Only shoot three pointers if you are wide open. 2.) Do not initate the offense ever 3.) If there are less than 8 seconds on the shot clock, give the ball to Brooks or Lowry and do not under any circumstances have the ball in your hand with the shot clock under 3 seconds.
- Reduce Ariza's minutes - Get Ariza playing more at the small forward spot again, going against other small forwards. - Get a more dynamic scorer or playmaker at the 2, let Ariza play off of everyone else. Ariza is an example of how PER and the Per-36-Minutes numbers in his low minutes role can't be extrapolated out over a full game to get the same efficient production. Its where you have to watch the games to see his skills wouldnt translated into an expanded feature role
Those per-36min stats again, previous years Ariza per-36 was getting over 2 steals a game. per-36 Last year - 2.5. This year - 1.7 Ariza used to get 7 rebounds per-36. This year, 5.3. "per-36" he's getting 1 less offensive board and one less defensive board. Cuz of difference in playing style shooting long jumpers instead of crashing in getting his own or other people's misses. Ariza's 3 pt % this year - .319 Ariza's 3 pt % last year - .319 So much for last years's postseason 3 pt tear being meaningful. Ariza not hitting his free throws. His FT% now - .657 His career FT % - .660 Conclusion - he's never hit his free throws too good No reason to check his regular FG%. He is what we thought he was. Playing overextended minutes and role. Ariza's passing and assists have improved, will give him that credit.
Sorry, didn't notice the reference to Ariza developing into a n efficient 15/7/5 guy. You're correct that won't happen.
developmental year my *ss. everyones playing great except for trevor ariza and he's only getting a grace period because he's our newest member. but anytime you go 10-48 you deserve to get called out. i could go in an nba game and throw up 48 shots and make 10 of them.
i have a feelingw e are going to look back on this move 10 years from now and say Ariza was Morey's biggest mistake
If your biggest mistake over a 10 year period is the signing of a MLE player, then you are one great, great GM.
What people fail to see is that when you play a uptempo offense like we do there are more possessions with means more shots being put up. Someone has to take those extra shots. Sometimes the extra shots fall and you drop 30pts and every one loves you. Other times 13 of those 21 shots you shoot you miss, and every wants you on the bench. Love him or hate him Trevor helps us win games and Im gald he is on our team. Tmac does not have the quickness or the athleticism to make moves like that anymore when it counts.
