DD is one of my fav posters but I would totally agree with your take on Ariza. Dude is definitely helping us win, though his shooting has been attrocious of late.
Since the 3rd game of the season, Ariza's FG% is .360 Since the 4th game of the season, Ariza's 3PT% is .285 "Hate" is way too strong a feeling, thats lame. Just on a team that relies on max effort to win, cant afford to leave points off the board. Which Ariza is partly doing. Its almost cheating the guys who bust their butts for extra possessions by wasting it on an off balance jumper that isnt within the player's skill set. He can get the money's worth if he slides in at small forward basically as a Battier replacement. He's getting paid $1 million less than Battier. Thats of course if he resumes his usual career role as slasher/spot up shooter/passing lane disruptor.
I'm sorry that you hate him but he's just doing what's asked of him. The Rockets expect him to do way more than he can. But honestly, he will never be a star. Closest star I can think he can even come close to is Rashard Lewis. But his shot must develop much more for him to even be close. But overall, Ariza is nothing but more than a good role player. If he had a star alongside him like Kobe, he don't have to force up bad shots and just focus more on his strengths and that is cutting, playing defense, and shoot the spot up three. The reason he had a lot of steals with the Lakers is because he can gambles in the passing lane more because he had Bynum and Gasol protecting the paint. With the Rockets, we have no shot blockers so it would be very risky for him to just gamble on the passing lane. If we had a healthy Yao Ming to protect the paint, then his steals average would go back up. But without a shot blocker protecting the paint, he can't gamble as much as he used to. But give him time, he's just trying to find a niche in his offense and he's learning how to create his own shot which he has never done before. He always had Kobe creating the shot for him.
i agree with you. this year without a big C or super-star we can't get the championship or even get close it.but we can get adelman's offense this year. for next year. we sign an 6-year. contract. not like ron artest. just one year
Here's what Adelman said about Ariza in his post-game conference last night. (Trevor’s big dunk): He’s got to learn. Everybody has talked about how he hasn’t shot the ball very well at all the last two weeks. This is a transition period for him. As much as he had it going early and things were easy, now it’s a little tougher and teams are playing him different. He’s got to figure out a way to be effective. I told him, ‘Don’t worry about making shots, worry about affecting the game in other ways. Be a facilitator, be a rebounder and affect the game that way and then the scoring will come.’ He’s just going to have to learn what teams are trying to do and take advantage of it. I just think he’s got to be more aggressive, not really worry about getting his shot blocked and just go in there and see if he can draw contact and make people foul him. http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/rockets_use_fantastic_finishin_2009_12_30.html
Wow....this just proves that Adelman, for better or for worse, has a stake in Ariza. Let's hope Adelman hasn't put all his faith into the wrong horse. I wish I had his vision though, what could he possibly see in Ariza to make him believe in him this much?
He's shooting the same, its becoming apparent he is what he is. Funny that you say that, he's averaging more steals here in Houston. So what we are seeing currently seems to be along the lines of what has always been. If im not mistaken he played in Orlando and NY before LA, so hes had a little time to learn how to dribble. It goes a long way.
Seems pretty greedy to me. Here we are, playing pretty good ball, doing way better than most predicted. If Ariza was hitting shots the way you want, we'd be considered title contenders. If thats really what you want, then I'd think you'd want Ariza to keep it up the way he is doing it. He is trying to learn to be a superstar. Working his way into getting those superstar calls.
If he was strugglin a bit I would of let slip .. understood it But its his attitude that he rubbed of kobe that makes my least fav player on the team ..
I hat him with all my rockets soul...with every inch of my back to back rockets championship pride. My god I would rather SheMac playing than him. Im about to blow a gasket.
Trever Ariza is nothing more than a bench role player on team with talented wing players. He has serious flaws in his game that will keep him from being a efficient player in this league if he's pressed into doing anything above that. He's athletic enough, but despite that his handle is absolutely atrocious for anybody with a whiff of athleticism and the guy flat out cannot shoot.
