Never beloved the guy. We should have made the switch last hear and let him go in the off-season.

He was never beloved, merely tolerated. Plenty of us haven't like him for a while, but when the team is a juggernaut you can start a scrub team mascot and still win.

Once things go wrong and the team is actually fighting to get into October... fans are less tolerant.

He actually had a vesting option so he was guaranteed to be here if he wanted to be (or at least get paid)

The report was that he was considering retiring and the Astros brass helped convince him to play another year.

I have a hard time thinking he was seriously going to throw away a guaranteed $4M which is about 16% of his career total.

Man I love maldy and he's an Astros legend for life.
He has looked terrible offensively and defensively this year though.

    This is where I am.

I live him and will always have great memories.

Sprinting for a foul pop-up he has no right to get to.

Sneaking behind a guy at first base to tag him out after a wide turn on a single.

Posing with a huge smile like some Renaissance painting after tumbling into 2B for a double.

Smart smart smart post season plate appearances.

But he's done now. He can no longer catch the ball and could never hit.

Make him the 13th player on the bench the rest of the season.

Cant blame him and he would be fine catching once or twice a week, 50 games or so and teaching Diaz how to prepare gameplans for the pitchers. But that's not how Dusty operates. To get the best out of this team you have to limit Dusty's options, fool proof things for him.

Or apparently just teach all your pitchers to throw left handed.

Found an article from June saying Dusty doesn't like rookies catching rookies... but don't the rookies have ironically more experience with each other from last year...?

It's the only way to make Dusty change.

Unfortunately it would rip the clubhouse apart.

Is there any precedent for such extreme reverse splits from a hitter, it's the damndest thing I've ever seen.

Sure. Any time small sample size stuff gets wonky. Which can easily happen over a 30 or so AB sample.

How low are they going to let him go?
    He's really struggling right now.

Wait until Brantley/Yordan/trade guy take up the DH every night down the stretch/playoff chase and Dusty is still trotting Maldy out there 6 times a week, while Diaz sits. You think the complaining is bad now lol
