Anyone willing to crowdfund/mass produce the title of this thread into shirts and sell em for $5 outside the box...????
I am just as tired of Abreu as any of us. He was awful today but no more than usual, which is to say he has been awful every day since he came here. Our "manager" continues to play him every day, far higher in the order than the worst player in the game warrants. His team mate Montero managed to lose another winnable game because our "manager" continues to use him in high leverage situations while leaving better options sitting on the bench. It occurs to me that one possible explanation for Dusties behavior regarding these players is that they are on this team at least in part due to his involvement in the process. He can play them till the cows come home and it will justify nothing. I am not ready to posit any darker motives for his choices but that is not to say they have not crossed my mind.
When I was happy about the Abreu signing, I was under the impression that he'd be a 7 or 8 hitter, not a 4 or 5 hitter. I didn't count on the Dusty Baker factor.
There is no way that you expected Jose Abreu to be a 7 or 8 hitter before the season started. The dude is like the 3rd best hitter in baseball over the last 9 years. Nobody foresaw his struggles this season.
I did.. he's 36 coming off 2 seasons of OPS decline going to a team that was supposed to have a healthy Altuve and Brantley. I didn't expect Abreu to be this pathetic, but I saw him as a 7 or 8 hitter on this team.
well honestly that was silly then. You would be the only one that saw him as a 7 or 8 hitter. I know hindsight is 20/20.
Need to take this series. Can’t drop a series to the white sox. Astros need to start consistently winning 2 of 3.
I actually expected them to keep the top/middle of the playoff/World Series lineup ( eventhough I did not like Pena 2nd) I expected Altuve Pena Yordan Bregman Tucker Abreu Brantley/ McCormick Meyers/McCormick Maldy
Season so long… there will be plenty of lineups. Amidst all the complaining about Abreu, people didn’t really notice all that much that Dusty went ahead and batted Yordan/Tucker back to back all these games. Bregman’s gotta have some BABIP ascension soon enough… and he doesn’t strike me as somebody who apparently has to bat at a specific part of the lineup to have success.
I thought 6th as well. Not because he’d suck, but I thought Dusty would want to keep Peña at 2nd and Brantley 7th.
On one hand that is good. On the other hand his double should been an out. Remarkable that 40 games in, he's tied for the team lead in ABs, but is 9th in runs, 5th in hits, 4th in doubles, 5th in RBIs, and tied with all the pitchers for dead last in HRs with 0. He is 2nd in strikeouts though.
