How did Bregman look? I saw he popped up on a pitch right in the middle of the zone

What I thought was weird is he seemed to abandon the bat on the shoulder pre-swing set up and went back to his old setup. Started popping the ball up again.

Isn't bat speed pretty easy to measure? I mean you can measure the clubhead speed of gold clubs at a lot of bars.

It's like Dubon and Bregman switch places minus the plate discipline.

I noticed this too. Had hoped maybe he had it figured out finally but then quickly regressed. Wondering if Nook has any insight. As bad as abreu has been, Bregman has been a glaring black hole too in the 2 hole aside from the walks

He had 2 solid swings at upper-zone 95+ FBs in his 1st 2 ABs: 1st one was up and out and he drilled it to the 2B...2nd was up and in and he wasn't late but fouled it back

    We'll see....

So, other than staring at a first pitch right down the middle, you're saying Bregman looked like Bregman has for much of this season?

Bregman looks like a **** sandwich. Abreu deserves the criticism, but Bregman is hurting them just as much.

Yep. Lots of blame to go around.

It doesn't stop with those 2 either.

    1) Yes.
    2) No-- I wasn't... the formula balanced out last year.
    3) Can't happen soon enough...

Enlightenment coming in strong... we're gonna be singing the same song in the next 30/60 days...
Dude is NOT an Astro... plain & simple.

My question is... what faith / confidence (other than "slumps") do you have in this has been....?

Better than a few weeks ago. He swung through a few fastballs but he didn’t seem over matched. He was bothered by being called a cheater. He made some comments to the crowd- which was really hard on him.

Not entirely. Guys can cheat and guess pitches or swing and not make contact. Abreu didn’t look outmatched from a reflexes or even pitch identification standpoint… when players are guessing you will see them swing through hittable pitches or be way out in front. Bregman did that once or twice and Julks too- but Abreu didn’t. Abreu didn’t barrel it up, but he turned on a 96-98 mph fastball inside, and he would just freeze at it 2-3 weeks ago.

Im not saying Abreu is going to suddenly hit well - his balance is terrible, he was making a lot of partial contact and his launch angle is off - but those are things that can be fixed.

Yeah, he had an EV of 112 mph on the one to second. So something is going on with Jose but it isn’t an issue with bat speed or reflexes.

Dude needs to run to first if the catcher drops the third strike in a tie game late.
Don't just smile and laugh while walking back to the dugout.
It's the same energy as schwarber bunting with two strikes in the 8th.

Maybe the Astros could convince the White Sox to take him back so he doesn't have to fly back to Houston after tomorrow's game? I'd seriously be willing to sacrifice a few low- to mid-level prospects and take back nothing in return just to get them to eat his salary and get him off the roster.

I realize there's zero chance of this happening. But get it done, Dana!

Bregman hasn't been good, but he's not on Abreu's level of bad. Bregman still has a positive WAR while Abreu has been the worst player so far in baseball this season.

Bregman has a .646 OPS, leads team with 25 walks, has 4 HRs, and a .5 WAR.
Abreu has a .521 OPS, and a MLB worst -1.0 WAR.
