You are the stat guy, but by my estimation his postseason OPS+ is 963. He’s 63% more valuable than all 9 Rangers combined. Approximately, of course.
He giving off la Pina big dck energy with how clutch he has been in playoff. He even runs around the base with his necklace bouncing up and down like la pina.
I would take a Jose Abreu with 0 HR for the whole regular season and hit HRs in the postseason. Credit is due to Baggy and major ups to Dusty, he never wavered moving Abreu from his batting position most of the season.
This speaks to my own (mostly) indifference to the regular season and all the daily line-up nitpicking, etc. There's obviously a means to an end, and I engage with that during the season (I *do* watch every game - well, most - but I sweat very few of them) - but at this point, the postseason is really all that matters. All the things I wish were better/different between April and September - none of it ultimately matters as long as this Jason Vorhees of a team makes the playoffs. Abreu hasn't been a great signing - and it's almost certainly a contract that won't age well. But mostly because it's not my money, I'm perfectly OK paying ~$20MM for ~6 weeks of MVP-level work if that work coincides with the stretch run/postseason.
Fangraphs has his 2023 listed as a value of negative $5.1M and he was paid $19.5M Can he make up $24.6M in 1 postseason? Maybe.
