Take away Harden and he’s done better than Morey at talent evaluation.

regretting the truth, DM the GM’s finest days were earlier in his tenure. Moving on was apt.

Lmao gift Morey the 2nd pick, two 3rd picks and the 4th pick and then we could call it even.

The highest pick Morey had was the 12th once.

Peeps are drinking the koolaid and taking the Stone drug while he has not even reached the WCF.

Morey achieved with less freedom and more creativity.

Morey had the opportunity to rebuild a team, but he bolted like a coward. Look, he pulled off one of the greatest trades of all time, and no one can ever take that from him. But to act like he was perfect as GM is, as you say, "drinking the koolaid." He was a poor drafter and did not value FRPs. His philosophies were often too extreme and rigid. The Westbrook trade is one of the worst of all time, and he didn't do a particularly good job of attracting free agents. Not to mention he was never able to hire a coach the quality of Ime.

The original post by myself was probably a little bit of overreaction, but I still don’t like the trade. I like the Sheppard pick and Griffin trade. Overall we are positioned well as long as Alpi of Amen become franchise guys.

I don’t personally think Brooklyn would’ve used their Phoenix assets to get a couple marginal upgrades around the core of bridges/johnson/claxton. And while I don’t think it would’ve been this summer, I feel like at the trade deadline or next summer they would’ve dealt bridges regardless. Id rather have held out hope for a high 2025 or 2026 pick two flip for a star. So many teams are loaded with future draft picks. I think you would have to have a very high lottery pick one of those two drafts to be able to pull off a trade in front of those teams..

That being said, I definitely realize the value in the trade.

Nah, slow your roll a bit on that, I like Ime but he's achieved all of nothing in his head coaching career. He might have focused on the other end more (though I'd say Mike is more prestigious an offense coach than Ime a defensive coach - by far) but Mike D'Antoni is a multiple coach of the year winner, as of right now he ranks higher than Ime, it's disrespectful to claim a basically rookie coach is above and beyond actual good coaches.

Zach Lowe says nets don’t do bridges trade and start tanking if marks and stone don’t talk beforehand.

    Stone did good here.

Stone I hate how you structured the Porter contract. Because of you and the team option we came away unscathed maybe even better off. I also liked how you moved him and just didn’t fire him. It’s like you don’t know what your doing.

I like how Dunning Kruger grabs a hold of any random person due to "doing their own research" and suddenly everyone can be an NBA GM! LOL

I have read that a few folks say that the Phoenix 2027 swap may be the most valuable in the mix.

The Nets don’t trade Bridges if the Rockets don’t agree to trade them back their picks. So without trading Bridges, the Nets picks fall between 8 and 16.

I think Stone was solid and transparent in his requests of what it would cost the Nets to get their picks back. He’s a man of his word. Just look at the deals he made with Atlanta last season, even after Brooks walked out on his word; Stone honored the trade.

I can't believe the Morey homers still exist tbh. Sure he was decent in some ways, but take Harden out of the equation (which was complete 100% luck and had nothing to do with any talent of Morey's) and he's a pretty mid GM overall. The thing Morey's good at is getting good value from players nobody rated in the past because he looked at advanced metrics. The problem is that treating everybody as numbers meant we could never attract good FA, never really foster good relationships with players and never really ever had the potential to be a powerhouse with Morey at the helm. The other negative is that people are so focused on advanced metrics that's all they see - a player who only ever scores an efficient 10 points is better than one who always scores 25+ at a slightly worse efficiency, it's nonsense when you lose by 15 but that's their universe now and it'll never change. Morey's great if you want to overachieve with mediocre talent, his numbers (and himself) could never really account for star talent so we never really got any outside of Harden and broken down players nobody wanted any more.

Not to mention Rick Adelman. That guy was pure genius to the point FBI had to investigate why his team lost to Kobe/Shaq Lakers. Ime has a long way to go to match these two. Hopefully he does :)

The new owner PUBLICLY took credit for the worst of those moves and if yall still hold that against Morey ill still be here to remind you.

Tilley purchased a 60 win team and immediately forced Morey to acquire bargain bin trash and burn assets for players like Ennis, Shumpert, Knight and Chriss. Morey deserves a BIG L for Lawson.

It's incredible that the narrative is now that Stone is better (???) than Morey and he hasn't sniffed the damn playoffs while Morey barely missed.

When people make revisionist arguments I have to assume that Potential tanatalizes you much more than winning and you don't understand human behavior such as why the entire front office abandoned ship after the new owner.

Morey got us to the Western Conference Finals twice and health permitting would have two rings. Let's crown Stone when he wins a damn playoff series and remember who he reports to.

    Better talent evaluation my ass.

    This post is insane.

I'll accept that he was rigid about his philosophy, but the rest is whackadoodle.

    - Westbrook trade was not something he wanted to do and is ultimately a symptom of what led to his departure
    - Couldn't attract free agents? He attracted prime Dwight Howard and end prime Chris Paul, two of the biggest free agent moves not named Lebron of the last 20 years. JJ Reddick wanted to come here, Eric Gordon, Trevor Ariza, PJ Tucker, Kyle Lowry (wanted to come back), etc. Like bro, for a non LA team that is incredible.
-He hired Rick Adleman and Mike Dantoni, two of the greatest coaches in NBA history. Dantoni had flaws sure, but the man was a great coach.

I think people hated the nerd aspect of Morey so much that they don't see how much he actually accomplished in this market. We are not LA. Houston is not and never will be a sexy market. We're closer to Indiana than we are to LA. There's no built in reason for the Rockets to be good. Being as good as we were under Morey without ever going into the tax due to ownership mandates is extremely impressive. Timing sucked due to Warriors, or Morey would have delivered a ring to Houston.
