Giving up the nets assets the next two years when they had just guaranteed themselves to suck is pathetic pathetic pathetic.
It looks too bad to be real. I think he's a bad GM, but I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to come so I'll hold judgment for now.
But why did we want to help them out by returning their pick? We are going to be drafting 3rd with their pick soon.
Just dumb….. I just don’t see them being any better next year than they were this year and if that trade had been in the top five or six next year, it would be the single best trade asset We would have to acquire a star. None of these picks in 2029 hold that sort of value. I really could care less that Brooklyn made this trade because they are now enabled to tank. We’re just not getting enough value value out of it. Straight trash unless somebody can make me understand. I
Yeah not sure we helped them out. We essentially put them in one kinda mediocrity hell where they can't tank but don't have pieces to compete either.
We still own the 2027 swap and allowing them to have their picks back all but guarantees they will be trash in 2027 unless they get extremely lucky with the lotto balls and even then they will likely suck. The Suns are going to be terrible and play in the West, which is and will be stacked for the foreseeable future. It's really not that difficult.
So in 2029 we get the best two picks out of Houston/Phoenix/Dallas? I wouldve called Brooklyns’ bluff. Let them keep Bridges to hover at .500 because they don’t gagave a first. Yeah, right they would’ve traded him over the next year just to get some sort of value before he bounces.
Few very important key considerations. There is almost a 100% chance that Brooklyn only made that trade with the Knicks contingent on the Rockets trade. Nets would not be any worse than they are now if they kept Bridges, and in fact could go after free agents this off-season that would do enough to keep the Nets at 9th-11th seed. The Nets pick jumping to 3rd pick from 9th pick is sheer luck, because there was only 20% chance of the Nets getting top 4 pick. If the Nets remain mediocre, the remaining picks could end up no better than a 9th pick. Rockets still own the 2027 swap. However, by giving Nets back control of their 2025 and 2026 pick, the Nets are put in a situation where they must really suck for 2 years, but only 2 years. If we look at all recent rebuilds, including that of the Rockets (OKC, Sixers, Kings etc.), all of them took at least 3 or more years. That means the Nets will either need to complete their rebuild in 2 years (very unlikely), or they jeopardise their rebuild by trying to "win now" in 2 years, or they bite the bullet and let Rockets pick up a quality swap in 2027, then go back to re-building. This is also assuming that the Nets can even "win now" by 2027, because they only have 2 years to get there, and they have to field a team of complete garbage during these next two seasons. In other words, the Rockets might be indirectly increasing the value of the 2027 Nets pick, but encouraging the Nets to suck in 2025 and 2026. The Rockets will come away with more overall assets. The Suns 2027 and 2029 picks are arguably one of the most valuable picks in the league. Whether these end up being more valuable is to be determined.
The Mavs and Suns won’t have any of their players in 2029. This just gave them twice as many trade assets.
How do you figure??? Booker will be 32 in 2029. Luka 30. Unless traded. they'll still be there and more than likely, will still be really good. Stars like those dudes attract other stars.
