Ok what the hell is wrong with the people at University of Houston? Every other major school within the Houston city limits is closed, except for the one that is quite possibly the most affected by the ice and rain? I'm not sure that they understand that most of their students are commuters and some might have trouble getting to school today. They delayed opening until 10:00 AM...and then regular classes will be held. Go check the news you idiots and see that every other school has been closed. They did this crap last year...
unless there's a hurricane coming right at the school, UH won't close. even then they will wait till it's close enuf. they just raised their tuition by lke 10% too.
seriously, the people in this city need to just suck it up, 90% of everyone could have made it into work/school without a problem. schools shouldnt have been closed yesterday. work is empty also, this is a joke.
I always get a good chuckle out of how people here react to the slightest bit of cold weather. It's 59 degrees? Oh no! Pull out the huge, thick winter coats. And now this. It's just -barely- freezing, and everything closes. My sister is in college in Minnesota, it's -8, and the school is open. Suck it up, wussies.
Kind of like when people up North b**** about a "heat wave" when it gets above 90 degrees. Uh....we have a "heat wave" every year in Houston. It lasts for about....oh, 4 months. I believe the scientific name for it is "A Typical Houston Summer".
This is my point... You can't expect people in Houston to deal with an ice event the way people in Minnesota deal with it. They have them constantly up there. We have one about every 10 years here. People simply don't know how to drive on ice here. Our local governments do not invest in equipment to keep the roads free of ice as they do up there.
I'd like to thank my clutchfans bretheren for reminding me that the South has hot summers and the North has cold winters. There's a reason this is the best site on the internet. Next up, we'll tackle that pesky "sun rising in the East and setting in the West" debate...
