The good news: No matter what our record is this year, may it be the worst in the league, 14th worst or 8th best in the west, we win. Scenario One: We suck. We suck bad. Okay? So, we suck and we still have our draft pick. We end up drafting a top 5 player in this draft or using that draft pick to trade for a player that is a top 25 player. If we suck because Harden can not carry a team, then so what? We will get an asset that will get us a player that will lift the load from Harden, all while allowing our rookies to play and get better. Scenario Two: We are good and we have a winning record but we do not make the playoffs! Man, the treadmill again!! Wrong. As the third youngest team and several players with All-Star potential, our future is looking VERY bright. Scenario Three: We make the playoffs. Okay, so you're telling me that the third youngest team just made it to the playoffs and has enough cap room to add a max player AND STILL has enough players to trade for another good quality player? Great. So we turn from making the playoffs one year to being a top 4 in the West the next (with a declining Spurs team and the Clippers SURE to mess SOMETHING up - not to mention Griffin is bound to injure himself for a full season again). I think that no matter what scenario, there is reason to be happy about our Rockets. Ultimately, I don't think that we will have the same team come Feb at the deadline. That sounds like a semi-bold statement in the NBA, but when you have Daryl Morey as the GM, it is more like a safe bet. He hardly ever makes trades where he does not get the best of the other team. I can think of maybe one (TWILL) where we lost. It is safe to say that we will have two All-Stars on our team by season's end or before the 2014 season starts. After that, Morey will do what he does absolutely best: bring in underrated talent that player exponentially better than their contract.
How isn't it? Lin is basically a second year player. Harden will be starting and playing heavy minutes for the first time. Parsons is only a second year player. Patterson has never been a starter. Asik is use to playing 15 minutes a game. White, Jones, Machado and DMo are all rookies and Morris basically is too. Delfino and Douglas are the only players coming off the bench with real experience. We are easily one of the most inexperienced teams in the league and a team that is very unlikely to play .500 ball. Can you name a team with as many first and second year players that we have that finished the season playing .500 ball?
Well, that's 41 wins. Robbie, if you don't mind, when you send in the $200, make it out from meh and Nook. It is about time those two became contributing members. I don't mind shaving off $50 from the bet if you can make that happen. So $150. Appreciate it if you could accommodate that, Clutch.
Is there where we get to eat crow? Because I'm happy to say I was completely wrong (ok, not completely because I was right about our defense, and besides I said all this before the Harden tradel but materially wrong). Good thing I'm not a betting man.
I don't even know if I posted in this thread, but I'll eat crow anyway! Never thought we'd be even an outside chance at a playoff spot with the most inexperienced starting 5 in NBA history. Very happy that we've almost made it!
Now, what are some of others similar limiting beliefs that you hold now about the future that prevents you from enjoying the present moment evenmore now?
Well, I don't think I posted in this thread, but I always thought this would be a .500 team, but never thought Asik would be as big a plus as he is and thought Lin would be more of a scoring factor. I also thought Chandler would be good, but not great (I thought he would suck when we drafted him... lol)
