Im assuming this post is all about your "im cool cause im a jerk" routine. If not, then you obviously are not as smart as you claim to be if you equate the danger of changing lanes without signaling with shooting off fireworks, illegally, during a dry season. Im sure you would feel differently if your house caught fire because your neighbors were illegally using fireworks.
Screw the police, if a tax payer wants to make a complaint about someone BREAKING THE FRICKEN LAW, then they should do their job and shut the heck up. DD
That was my point that some crimes are more serious than others. Some crimes can be resolved by talking things through with the neighbors as opposed to immediately calling the police. A good citizen of the community will first try to reason with the neighbors, then if that doesn't work, call the police. Calling the police first will also serve to create anger amongst neighbors that perhaps cannot ever be fixed. By the way - what if the family was out doing community service all day feeding orphans at a homeless shelter, and this was the only time they had to shoot off their fireworks? My point is that a simple talk could have gone a long way here. His concern was over the noise.
It just occurred to me that there is something that might have been even funnier -- about a year or two ago, on Jim Rome's show, one of Travis Rogers' neighbors was installing a hot tub in his front yard. Now THAT was hilarious. I'll see if I can find audio clips of that.
... actually, I think that should be exhibit B. My post at the bottom of page 1 of this thread should be exhibit A. (I hate it when I my post ends up on the bottom of a page. It never gets read.)
Exactly. I don't know if fireworks were legal here, but : http://www.kwtx.com/news/features/6/1652532.html I'm sure things like this don't affect insurance rates or anything...
If someone is taking away from The_Conquistador's beauty sleep, then it's on. Forget about the police. I get revenge in the morning. As an early riser, I have a tremendous advantage. If they are out making a ruckus at midnight, I know good and well they won't be up at 5:00am. I know where their car is parked, where their pet is located, and where their bedroom windows are. Not too long ago a carload full of people where making noise at 3:00am on a Saturday night. Who was in the back seat of the car? My neighbor. Hope his tire wasn't too hard to change while hungover the next day.
I don't know where all this stuff about it being a fire hazard came from, really. I had no idea about the dry season, the type of housing in Houston (or wherever this is taking place). From what rockbox said, the reasons he called the police were not those concerning fire hazards or anything of such kind. He was talking about the noise, being annoyed that it was disturbing at that time of night. While this might also be a reason as to why it is against the law, it is not one that for me warrants a direct call to the police, or such anger (on this given day). If he had said "I'm really worried about my house burning down! It's really dry and they are getting dangerously close to the roof with their works" or whatever, then maybe I would have been a little more understanding.
I can recall several instances when BBS member were able to reason with you ~ in a face to face situation do you become more difficult?
My neighbors on the left like to do this once in a while when they have company. It's not often, but can be nerve racking and it sometimes will continue after midnight.
For all those who said "Don't call the police" How do you think that women in Austin feels now that her house burned down last night because of fireworks? Give me a break, if they are breaking the law...they should be fined. People could always go OUTSIDE the city limits to have their fun and not bother people. People are so darned inconsiderate these days...... DD
LOL - the front page story of the Chronicle today was about how the 911 dispatchers are overburned to the point of potentially compromising citizens' security. How's that for timing??? http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/topstory2/3253230
On the other end of my street some yahoos have a karaoke machine that they crank up from time to time real late at night. I think they must have it set up in their garage. Luckily I can only hear them when I get out of my car to go into my house, but I can't imagine what it must be like to be their neighbor.
Well according to him he lives just out side of the city limits so don't say this crap about going outside of the city limits to have the fun. Now he did say that the law is within 5000 feet, that's less than a mile, and I didn't know that. Now I wonder if his neighbors knew that. He said they do this every year but he didn't mention anything about trying to reason with these rednecks in the past so maybe he is the redneck that can't be reasoned with because the first thing he seemed to do was call the police and hope for that 2000 dollar fine. He probably didn't know what the law was until that night.
