I live in the 'Burbs in Katy and I got to deal with the same stuff lastnight too.. I feel for ya rockbox.. I didnt get to sleep untill 12 or so and had to get my ass up at 4 today.. I'm still in shock that there wasnt a ban on fireworks or atleast bottlerockets and other flying stuff because it has been sooooo dry.. I too get to deal with the people a few doors down shooting off for the past few days, they started last Thursday and it may not end untill this Thursday if it's anything like New Years... :(

My neighbors went on with their fireworks until 1:30 this morning. Not suprisingly, my son didn't stay asleep until then (normally goes to bed @ 7:30).

These are the same neighbors that have a dog they will let bark, non stop, till the wee hours of the morning almost every night of the week, so they obviously don't care about noise.

They are trash. They are the epitome of a "bad neighbor".

They are the main reason I am selling my house and moving.

Consider yourself lucky. I live downtown near the big fireworks display (could see it all from my bedroom window).

Idiots next door trying to charge people $5 to park in an empty lot across the street they don't even own. I think they may have actually duped 1 car into doing it after spending 4 hours out in the sun waving at the passing cars, and all they have to show for it is $5 and a serious sunburn.

Idiots everywhere... parked on the sidewalk in front of all the duplexes on my block. Our street was basically a parking lot from about 10pm-midnight for all the people trying to make it out of the park area. Booming bass, drunken fighting, cop sirens all night...

The fireworks were so loud that our kittens freaked out and hid for about an hour. Found a little pool of kitten pee in the corner... :(

At least I had the day off, grilled a hell of a steak, and have a short week ahead of me. Happy 4th! :)

you bring up some good points...but you also realize that you wouldn't call the cops. calling the cops takes it to a whole other level in my mind. from being the victim to being the *******.

it's twice a year. very big days as well - i don't know what i'd do with the kid though, definately a tough situation. earmuffs maybe (oldschool style).

I heard this talked about on some local news channel...evidently, the fireworks ban has to be asked for by a certain date and at the time of the deadline, it hadnt been dry enough to warrant the ban.

I didnt do any for that exact reason...the field behind my house is dry as straw and it wouldnt take much to set it off.

as for rockbox....I feel for him and know exactly where he is coming from..

I have a few neighbors that wont listen to reason...they will be making all sorts of noise after midnight and in generally making nuisences of themselves...and if you try to talk to them, they just go "sure, no problem...we will take care of it"...and they dont.

its a b**** living in suburbias sometimes..Im just glad I still have great neighbors on either side of me...the bad ones live a few doors down.

Seriously, this is too much. "They do this every 4th July and New Year's." SHOCKER! Aren't these holidays usually associated with fireworks? I would understand if they did this every month, week, whatever, but you should at least be able to take it on this day or over the weekend even. That's what happens. I would sorta understand if they are bad neighbours on top of this but getting annoyed just about this is ridiculous. I'm sorry, but you're just going to have to take people celebrating a little bit. I don't care if you have work the next day. I work 10-12 hours a day some weeks and have classes as well, so I know what getting up early (6 am, 5 am) is all about. I just think this is so, I don't know... calling the cops?! I'm hoping you can say that you have tried before, or that they always make noise or something to justify this. I'm still laughing about the "They do this every 4th of July!!" Lol, this would only happen in America. People getting pissed off about celebrating the biggest holiday of the year. I can just see myself running out at midnight at new year's telling people on the street to shut the hell up!!

Do whatever you think you need to do......

If calling the cops got them to stop, good for you.

People should know better, but they are obviously not caring enough or considerate enough about anyone other then themselves, so do what you have to do to make them stop, and let your little one sleep.

People could go out somewhere and pop them off where they wouldn't disturb others, but they decided to do it in the neighborhood, you don't give any respect to someone who is not giving you any in the first place.

    uck fem.

    DD

PS. Ace, you don't have to pop firecrackers off late at night to celebrate......

Years ago I asked my neighbors to please keep their dog quiet so my daughter (then a toddler) could get to sleep. They were offended by my request, feeling as if I was insinuating that they are irresponsible pet owners (which they are). They defied my request and bought another dog.

That's what you get for trying to be the civil nice guy.

The thing is - they don't care. They can hear their dog bark just like we can, and they don't care. They don't care that the dog-barking loud and it bothers their neighbors. They didn't care before I said anything, and nothing I say will make them start caring. They are self-centered people.

Those people who were doing the fireworks - they know it's midnight, and that there are people sleeping. They don't care. If rockbox had walked up to them and talked to them, do you honestly think they would have said, "Oh wow - I'm sorry! I didn't realize it was so late and that you guys were trying to sleep! Oh yes, of course we'll stop. Hey - and thanks for talking to us like a civilized adult." No. They wouldn't say that. They know it's late and people are sleeping and they just don't care.

Call the cops on their ass. Since they only thing they care about is themselves, this is the only way they'll stop.

If you're complaining about fireworks before 11:00...you're an old cranky no-fun homebody. Grumble away...but let everyone else live a little.

If it's after 11:00 and they're setting them off in a family neighbourhood, then I agree with DD. Do what you have to do.

Sounds like y'all had a busy weekend! Was it more crazy this year?

    I agree.

I think 10:30-11:30 PM is a reasonable cutoff.

If you're a teenager and you want to play with fireworks then fine. But if you're an adult and you play with fireworks, then you're entering white trash territory. Then again, these are probably the same people who wear flag shirts and pants.

if they do this every year, wouldn't you want to prepare. Maybe take a nap during the day, then take the kid out while they are popping the fireworks and enjoy it?

Luckily most of my neighbors seemed to have shot their fireworks wad Saturday and Sunday. It didn't go on much past 10 in my neighborhood. What pisses me off is when I find debris on my roof and yard.

somewhere in my neighborhood they were still at it when i went to sleep, and that was close to 1am. i was out there earlier in the night with my neighbors around 10 settin them off, and we had a blast.

yeah its annoying sometimes that people aren't as considerate towards the rest of us, but its the 4th and its cool to see people celebrating it. only 2 loud nights out of the year? you're living the good life :)

Bingo - that is what it all boils down to - people not thinking of others.

And guys like Ace (not to single you out but your post stuck out more than the others) and others who are defending the neighbors - I take it you guys have never been awakened in the middle of the night by inconsiderate **** like dogs barking, fireworks going off, etc., because if you have, I think you would see where rockbox is coming from.

Just remember - rednecks cannot be reasoned with.

Anyone defending the clowns setting these things off is wrong. First of all, yes, they apparently are breaking the law if what the original poster said is true. Second of all, when one of those fireworks lands or misfires onto a neighboring house or lawn and ignites due to the dry weather (at least here in Dallas), we'll see how understanding you defenders of the wrong are. Oh wait, better yet, let it be your house.

The fact is, the guy shouldn't have to adjust his or his kid's sleep schedule for anyone that is flat out breaking a law.

I don't think anyone is really defending them. It just seems a bit much to freak out about fireworks on the fourth of July. I had to get up real early this morning but the loud city show kept me up hours later than I wanted to be. But I understood that's just the way it is on the fourth even though it sucks for me.

rockbox did the right thing. It gets dark at 8:30 so why couldn't they start blowing them off then? Why did they have to wait until 10:30 to start? Answer? So they could finish drinking their beer.

Yeah, I'm sure a bunch of drunk rednecks breaking the law would have been totally understanding if rockbox would have come out and asked them to stop. I'm sure that would have gone well...

I'm lucky, I live inside city limits and we have a very active HOA so I didn't hear a single firecracker all weekend.

Whenever we blow off firecrackers, we are considerate enough to go somewhere away from people's homes. An open field. A large parking lot. There are plenty of places to blow off firecrackers away from people's homes. These idiots just didn't care.
