Forget about miking up the coaches. I want the players miked up when they are playing so we can hear their trash talking lol.
yeah, billups wasnt near as good then. marbury and kg were young..and what you said is also true. the fact that he listed wally and hudson proves the point of KGs compliment players.
Good rebounders do not average 15 rebounds a game, good scorers do not get you 25 points a game, and good passing Bigmen do not put up 5 assists a game, The fact is.... He is great at everything. Plus the undeniable passion and (Battier esque) intangibles he brings to the game on a nightly basis... Speculation........... So where is that interview chief? I bet if you asked Sam the same question he would say the exact same thing about KG, its called respecting ones elders.......
I'm not going to bother finding the exact quote because at this point its irrelevant. You're obviously unfamiliar with this T-Wolves team we're discussing so why even bother. You don't have a point buried in here...anywhere. I never mentioned anything about his rebounding, scoring or passing abilities. Obviously the guy is a great player. I just take issue with the flawless media perception he has.
i'd say you are unfamiliar if you are bashing kg for not winning with the garbage he's been playing with for years and years
So basically i'm supposed to feel sorry for a player that commanded a salary so large and unheard of that it severely crippled the team's ability surround him with adequate players, right? Mind you, he made $28 million a year at one point in Minnesota. For comparative purposes, the NBA salary cap this year has been set at $55.63 million. During the majority of his stay in Minnesota it was in the $40-49 million range. Do the math. When your franchise player sucks up THAT much of your payroll what exactly do you expect? (Playing out West, no less) Forgive me for not being so willing to make excuses for him like the rest of you guys.
your conclusion above in no way relates to my point. I never mentioned feeling sorry for the guy. I am just pointing out that basketball is a team sport and no matter how good one person is, they need significant help. Shaq demanded a large salary and it didnt criple a teams ability to find good players. Fact is, minny has made many, many poor decisions and flat out stupid moves. The one year they had a decent supporting cast, they went to the WCF. see shaq...you do the math. So now you are blaming KG because the team paid him...haterade at its finest again, im not making excuses. pull your head out of your rear end. Im pointing out the fact that he has not been on very good teams, therefore its hardly accurate, fair, or smart to knock him because "he" hasnt won more...especially in a TEAM GAME. forgive me for not being a blind hater and acknowledging a damn good player.
I need a freaking Bulldozer to sift through all this bull$hit in that post Dirk has played with: Jerry Stackhouse, Jason Terry, Antawn Jamison, Steve Nash, Josh Howard, Antoine Walker, Michael Finley and Nick Van Exel just to name a few...and he played with all of these guys in their primes (or right around it) Actually, Marbury was good in Minny. Billups bounced around the league for a while and was considered a bust until HE FOUND THE RIGHT SYSTEM and Larry Brown. Has Marbury even made the playoffs since then? Then I guess Yao Ming sucks too, right? No, lack of depth and good players always exposes you in the playoffs. The only year he had a legit roster...they advanced pretty far into the playoffs. I guess you missed the Boston game against Houston this year. Yeah, KG is a terrible 4th quarter player. EDIT: I agree about the Duncan comments, though.
you put kg's fire and heart and insert that into T-MAC, then you might have a heir to the Jordan throne and not a poor mans KOBE on a good night.
You're right but it's still crippling no less. It isn't just like, "Oh he has Bird rights, sweet! He doesn't count towards the cap!" That would be nice though. Donkeymagic, So now we've resorted to the classic "...but it's a team game!" defense!? C’mon now…. Another point about KG that irks me is somebody like T-Mac, who is every bit the talent and player, gets absolutely skewered and roasted by the media and pundits. The same media and pundits that glorify KG. What even separates them? Aside from T-Mac's durability issues only one thing separates them: the fact that KG has made it out of the first round once and T-Mac hasn't. You would never think that though given everybody's fascination with him. It's as if that one year alone validates him as a championship caliber player. He has yet to prove that in my book. I'm sorry if that makes me a "hater" or invokes your corny "head outcha rear end" jabs. I still think he's a great player and I have never said otherwise. I just, again, feel that given his flawless media perception you would think he's much more accomplished than he actually is.
Wally Scerbiack was on the ALL Star team in 2002. Im not sure why people keep *****ting on him. Jerry Stackouse: is not anywhere as good as he was in Detroit. Hes a role player that averages about 12 ppg since he's been in Dallas. Jason Terry: Never been an all star and is another ROLE PLAYER Most people would take Latrelle Sprewell, Sam Cassel and Wally Scerbiack over Terry, Stackhouse and even Michael Finley. Antwan Jamison: Never been an all Star. Only played one year in Dallas Atwan Walker: Horrible player when he was in Dallas. Did absolutely nothing. Michael Finley: All Star player. Nick Van Exel: Was past his prime in Dallas, but still a solid player. If you had a choice of guards who would most people take: Chauncey Billips, Stephon Marbury, Sam Cassel, Latrell Sprewell and Wall Scerbiack.......all have been All stars in this league. or Jason Terry, Jerry Stackhouse, Michael Finley, Steve Nash and NVE. Outside of Nash, the above players would all be considered stronger players. I know for a fact that Billiups and Cassel have been all NBA players. Im going to repeat myself. Dirk has played with three All Star players. I don't count guys that were once all stars and then played in Dallas past their prime. Steve Nash Michael Finley Josh Howard. Josh Howard was an injury replacement for the All star team last season. For the past 4 seasons Dirk has been the only real All Star on a Mavericks team that has gone 58-24, 60-22, 67-15, and now 31-13. During this same time period Kevin Garnetts teams haven't even sniiffed the playoffs. Dirk and Kevin Garnette met once in the playoffs and Dirk absolutely killed him. Averaged over 30ppg and 15 rebounds in leading the Mavs to a sweep of the timberwolves...and this was a 4 seed/5 seed matchup. Since their 2003 Championship what great players has Tim Duncan played with outside of Tony Parker and Manu Ginoblie????? Ive never seen any player were people make so many excuses on why this guy isn't a winner. He's been in this leauge longer than Dirk and Tim Duncan hasn't won anywhere as much as these guys.
so you are saying basketball isnt a team game? is your "C'mon now" suppose to be your rebuttal? there you go. he's a great player. Thats all you had to say. I dont think his media imagine is flawless, or perceived that way...the guy has been questioned about his lack of playoff success PLENTY. People are just happy to see a great player who has has struggled finally be on a good team. Plus, he is well liked and respected by media, players and from what i've heard is genuinely a nice guy.
I don't hate him. I mean I hate him when we play him. But other than that he is a good guy for the most part I think? I never hear anything bad. Trash talking is no big deal. It's part of the game, it happens all the time. The guy is freaking talented and he is a player you'd love on your team. Of course he has his shortcomings but most players do... you'd be suprised at what half the things guy's say on the court. Either (1) sit courtside or very close to it or near a teams bench or (2) read :07 Seconds Or Less. It's a book about the Suns 05-06 with an inside perspective. Great read. Every basketball fan should read it. Wish they made one for every team.
I think is funny how a teams lack of success can be put on one individual player. You have to give KG credit for playing hard even on a team like the T-wolves. Look at KG's stats this year with Boston his ppg is down, rebounds are down but they have the best record in the league. How your teams performs as a whole determines your playoff success.
Duncan has had much better teammates and much better coaching staff using the talents they do have than KG. It is silly to argue otherwise. That said I think Duncan is the better post-season player--more dominant half court presence--by a good margin. If you switched players on those teams all things being equal I don't think KG would have 4 rings, but I feel confident they would have won 1 or 2. But if Duncan played on the Wolves for KG (all other factors being the same), he would have zero rings like KG. So Duncan has been better for most their career. So what, Duncan is one of the best players in NBA history and third best player the last decade (if you count MJ tail end with the last decade)--and is definetly a top 15 of all time player. KG has however been much more successfull as a team leader than Kobe (post Shaq), Tmac or Yao though, and you could argue in the same ballpark as other all-NBA 1st team semi regulars over the period (hard not to consider a 1st team all NBA guy not a superstar) with some playoff success, but who havn't quite got it all thr way done (Dirk or Nash or Lebron or Kidd or AI). Only 4 superstars over the last decade have truly carried their squads to rings--Jordan, Shaq, TD and Wade, and KG is near the top of the next tier.
