Hey, where you can buy a slushee machine? Seriously. That's all I need to survive. I think there are six or seven food groups in there.
I love grocery shopping, it's a great place to meet girls! But I hate getting stuck behind slow people in the store! Hate clothes shopping!
Midnight runs are cool except for when there's that family shopping late at night and you have to get in line behind them and their four carts of groceries because there's only one checkout line open.
I never understood why there are families at the grocery store at 1am, when I go grocery shopping... why are these little kids still awake?
Randalls is expensive. . .even with the f*cking card however. . .be some nice women to look at there only redeeming quality of the Grocery stored. rocket River
Man, shoot, i try not to strike up a conversation with the old elderly people. i just look down at my scanner thing and just go fast. they make us scan over 20 items per minute. i have the second fastest thing at 19.8. i pretend that sometimes, i am a sacker, so i don't have to check for other people. Man this job is monotnous. It is boring. It's the same ol crap.
What the hell are you buying at Randalls, Pimp? I just spent $84, and only "saved" $8. Seeing how HEB is cheaper across the board, I probably still paid more.
actually, i've recently noticed that Walmart super stores are much cheaper than HEB... the prices on their frozen dinners that I buy are over 50% cheaper!
I have no problem dealing with Walmart. They are no worse than any other grocery type place that I have been...and drapg is right, most of Walmart's prices are the best, and their frozen food prices are outstanding.
Paging Rocketman Tex! Rocketman Tex to the front of the store please! We need a price check on the alleged evils of Wal-Mart! Paging Rocketman Tex!
I love to go grocery shopping. I only shop at two places, Super Wal-Mart and Super Target (with an occasional stop into Rainbow foods). I never make a list, and never clip coupons (time is money), and I go down every aisle. 71 bucks is cheap for me. I usually go about every 2 weeks, and spend well in excess of 100 bucks each time.
Super Wal-Mart is not too bad as long as you go before 4pm on the weekdays and 11am on the weekends. drapg is right - Wal Mart is about .75 cents cheaper on Lean Pockets.
I worked at Kroger back when i was in high school. THE WORST JOB EVER! DON'T EVER BE A GROCERY STORE CHECKER! Not only is it monotonous, the pay sucks, and you just feel like a loser working there. At least i did. To pass time, there isn't much to do, other than clean your register a billion times, pray you can be the one to return the cart of unwanted items, etc. Sometimes, making fun of the customers in your mind helps. You know, like the ladies with mustaches, the men who's only source of nutrition is beer, stuff like that. But mostly, you just STAND around thinking about how much your job sucks....
I also work at a grocery store. And, jeez people, it's "Kroger" not "Kroger<i>s</i>". Don't you see the letters up on the store...there is no S! Since I started working there, I've noticed that when I've been in other stores the difference in prices or the total bill. I think Wal-Mart Supercenter is one of the cheapest, then it's HEB/Kroger. Randalls is notorious around here for being expensive, and the one time I went in the new one down the street from where I work I noticed it. But they have brown bags with handles....oooooooooooh! Working at a grocery store can be a pretty fun job if you make it one. If you get to know some of the customers (not hard for me, my store is 3 minutes away from my house and I see people I know all the time) and get to know most of the co-workers. But you do have to learn to deal with some rude-a$$ customers, but not too many. drapg, to answer your question, yes the mind does wander every now and then, especially when there are certain "distractions" around the store.
Going to the grocery store is fun, at least for me anyway. But it's got to be alone or with a friend - not with my parents or family; I can't stand half of the food they buy or the time they take in the store! Here in Florida, the dominant chain is Publix...so I go there all the time. The prices are a tad higher than other places, but the service is also better and the stores are always cleaner. Not to mention their own food is pretty good, too. I end up spending about $50 and it lasts for a week to a week and a half. Always in and out, though - I know what I want and where to find it and I'm gone. If I want to look around, I go to Wal-Mart. I've also got to agree with DoD here - late night runs to the store, especially the 24 hour Wal-Mart supercenters, are better. Though, when I'm in college, the stores are also deserted about 2-3pm, so that's also a good time to hit the shelves.
I'm sorry, but you guys don't know expensive until you do your weekly grocery shopping at Whole Foods. No card, no specials, no in-store coupons, just $7.99 per pound for Rainier cherries and $5.29 for organic butter. Mr. JB and I average about $150 per week on groceries. It's worth it to us because Whole Foods had the best selection of vegetarian and/or organic foods in the city. Plus we almost never eat out, so what would have been spent on restraunts goes to groceries instead. Now, I won't even go into our cat food bill...
Wal-Mart is ok....if you like giving your money to satan.. i live an hour from they're headquarters in Bentonville, AR.. they've usurped every major competitor in the area, and we know quality has nothing to do w/it.. Wal-Mart's a few steps from OmniCorp....the vision of the last major conglomerates making the final merger..... "The Onion" satirized the future business model on 1/1/2000....... what'd i'd kill for, is an HEB Central Market.. they rule austin, centex, and they're in h-town now.. some place i can buy dos equis in the green bottle... stuck in the lower midwest, where I say "NBA", and people say "what"?,, davesavage
I like going to Central Market just to buy fruit... they have the greatest selection! I just don't like how they have a set pathway for consumers to travel... I always have to close my eyes and hold my breath as I walk through the meat section... I wish there was a way to avoid it! as for Whole Foods, as a vegetarian, I know what you mean! They have a great selection, but boy does it hurt the wallet! They carry food brands that I just can't seem to find anywhere else! But going grocery shopping at lunch is foolish (I found out the hard way!)... everyone and their mom goes there for lunch, same for Central Market!
