Please don't get me wrong, Sanders is one of the best of all time and I'm not trying to downplay his career. I just wanted to point out that you could have the best RB in the league, but if you don't have a team, you aren't going anywhere, just like those Lions teams. Also, Bush doesn't take a lot of contact on the field, you never know how his body will take the brutal hits of the NFL, just like I'm sure nobody thought Sanders' career would be that short. But I guess you could say that about any college player.
Barry Sanders played 10 seasons. You think that's short? For an NFL running back, that's an eternity.
If Reggie Bush is near the level of Barry Sanders, you have to take him. Barry Sanders regularly rushed for 1500 yards plus. He did that mostly without the benefit of a blocking fullback, since he played in run-and-shoot offenses. I personally have a hard time believing Reggie Bush is THAT good. I don't watch much college football though.
IF you can Draft a player that can become the BEST PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM ..... YOU DO IT! We have alot of holes to fill but two extra draft picks and a ROOKIE OL will not do much different next year. And with the way we've been drafting I would rather take my SHOT at BUSH! rather than seeing more BABIN/ TRAVIS JOHNSON! Can you imagine if we traded BUSH and we ended up with those two?
I'm not big on Reggie Bush either as a saviour of a franchise. I say we bump down to 3 or 4, depending on if Quinn comes out. In fact, if we do get the number 1 pick, i would trade down 1 spot for 2nd spot if they want bush. I would also trade down from the 2nd spot to 3rd or 4th to pick up d'brick. And take maybe a 1 next year and a 2nd this year.
There are so many things to consider. First of all, Casserly probably can't talk about Bush because if he says he's going to draft him, or not, maybe it'll affect Bush's decision to declare or not (no matter how obvious it seems) Then, whatever you say, let's say you will draft Bush, then it upsets DD, then we no longer have trade value for DD and we still have 4 games remaining. what if we win a game or two and don't have the 1st pick?!? Then you don't have Bush, you have a disgruntled DD knowing that he was a second choice to someone who's not even in the NFL yet. Don't think we have the 1st pick yet. It's mentioned a lot because we're a game or so ahead. We beat SF, and ... yeah. Then if we DO get that pick. Personally, I say we take Bush, mainly because we still have other picks to fill holes. However, SD is a perfect example of how it could work out either way. Let Vick go, get LT, and holefillers. Let Eli go, get Rivers, and a bunch of picks. They got better overnight, but then again, I really hope CC doesn't screw up the picks if we choose to. Finally, I really don't see us NOT picking Bush if we have the pick. Why? If the Texans finish 1-15 or something like that, having the first pick of the draft and a player of Reggie's status could only help ticket sales. Either way, the season's not even over yet. What is Casserly SUPPOSED to say? I don't like the way he's running the team, but he did the right thing here. He avoided talking about Bush and the #1 pick. He avoided saying anything about getting the #1 pick which would mean that he believes that his team is going to lose all its remaining games. He avoided saying what they'll do so he kept the players positive. Even more, he made sure Bush won't back down if he gets the #1 pick. If he backs down cuz he doesn't want to play with a 1-15 team or something like that, or if he shows disinterest to play with the Texans, then the pick's value just dropped a lot! Don't read so much into it. He's just saying what he has to say when questions like these are asked.
the texans don't need a QB, carr is very good especially if you give him some time....now if you never improve your oline, you go with vince young if he comes out, he is about one of 3 guys on the entire planet who could make positive plays with his feet with that oline, yeah his passing numbers would suck because he needs time to throw accurately, but he could run for days. i think it's obvious, if you go number one you pick bush. i'm not sold on him becoming the greatest player EVER, or the hype that he's even the greatest college football player EVER. but he is damn good, and i think the texans would be complete morons to pass him up, which is definite possibility because they are well......morons.
How naive can you be to honestly believe that CC would come out and say, "Yes were taking Bush!" "Yes, Domanick Davis sucks!" "Yes, were gonna take 'no comment' with the 'blank' pick, which we don't have, and just so any any other teams are listening, we don't really want 'no comment' that badly, but we will trade up if we by chance have the 'blank' pick. You made my day thanks. Bush 06'
I heard CC's comments and I thought he was just trying to say all the right things. He can't comment on a junior and he was showing loyalty and backing up his pwn players. Fact is, he probably will not be here so it really doesn't matter. My though about IF the Texans have #1 is you have to get Bush. I trust John McClain (and his sources) on this one in that he could be the best prospect ever. They are comparing him from Barry Sanders to Gale Sayers. You don't pass up a game-changer like that. Also, just like Mr. McClain said, you typically can find good O-lineman in the 2-4 rounds. After the #1 pick, they still have plenty of picks (along with free agency) to fill some holes. We are at least 3 seasons from competing again (though I hate having that mentallity but it's the truth) so we have time to build around him, Carr and AJ. Bottomline, you can't pass up a guy that could very well become the best at his position for years to come. DD is a good back, but he is by no means a HR threat and probably ranked in the middle of all NFL RBs. Having Bush on the field, makes EVERYONE better (from Carr, Wrs, O-line and D).
I have the same sentiments. Just what are the odds that Bush can become as good as Barry Sanders? In fact, what are the odds that he'll even be a pro bowl RB? I believe the last "can't miss" RB taken #1 was Ki-Jana Carter, whom the Bengals moved up to get. Of course, the Jaguars took Tony Boselli with the #2 pick... It's really amazing how much more hype surrounds skill postion players over other guys. I'm surprised there's so much hype surrounding a guy who hasn't even gone through a workout for NFL scouts. Surely CC, should he remain the GM of the Texans, can wait until after the combine/personal workout before judging whether to take him or not.
How about keeping D.Davis and drafting Bush. We can do twin RB attack. It works miracles. Davis can block for QB and Bush can run for short pass and get some extra yards. In this way we can have more protection and more, better options on offense. We can do fakes after fakes with Davis running insides and bush running outsides.
Are you a CARR Fan? If so . . . please tell me what QB of Carr's Caliber Barry played with WR of Johnson's Caliber? My issue with that is that is so .. . blanket a statement about barry Unless we fire Capers and hire Wayne Fontes I doubt it is a fair comparison Rocket River
DD isnt as great as yall make him. He is a mediocre RB but it is all we do every game so his stats might look better. DD isnt a playmaker, he runs for short yardage and will rarely be break into the open field. Bush style of play is much less dependent on the O-line then DD. Bush's amazing balance and speed should give us a big play or two from him every game. Whats DD biggest play so far, like a 20 yard run or something.
Exactly...with DD, you don't think he's going to score everytime he touches the ball. And the few times he's gotten into the open field, he gets caught because he doesn't have that great of sprinting speed. With Bush...he's a legitimate threat EVERYTIME he touches the ball. I really don't think defense coordinators are afraid of DD, but with RB, they have to really structure their gameplan for him.
My point is that many of these Bush guys are thinking he is giong to come in and take us to the playoffs right away. He is an unbelievable player, but 1 RB isn't going to turn this team around, we still have a garbage OL, mediocre WRs outside of AJ, a terrible linebacking core, and a secondary who can't create any type of turnover whatsoever. Barry might not have played w/ a QB of Carr's caliber or a WR of AJ's caliber, but it's not like Carr has been exactly lighting it up. We're a possibly a 1 win team this season, one player isn't going to turn us around.
The part where someone forgot to tell McNair that Buchanon doesn't like to tackle is freakin hilarious. Casserly and Capers must go.
Maybe I'm just in a bad mood, but God, I am SO sick of you people who don't even bother to CHECK if you're right or not. Try facts. First off, Domanick Davis, prior to today's game, has 208 carries. 13 of the top 30 NFL running backs (using rushing yards) have more carries than him. Yeah, the Texans run DD ALL the time. Second, DD's longest run this season is 44 yards. Let's look at some other fast RBs. Larry Johnson? 46 yards. Clinton Portis? 47 yards. Edgerrin James? 33 yards. Willis McGahee? 27 yards. Rudi Johnson? 28 yards. LaMont Jordan? 26 yards. Oops. There goes that argument. Third, DD runs for short yardage and rarely breaks into the open field, because HIS OFFENSIVE LINE IS ATROCIOUS (this is indisputable, BTW). Yet, with the crap line he's had every year, he's still managed to run for over 1,000 yards in each of his 3 years (assuming he does it again this year with a few games left to play). Stop the hating. Stop the misinformation.
Yeah, where does all this "DD is mediocre" stuff come from? Ok, so he's not barry sanders, he's just a guy that rushes for 1,000 yards every year and throws in another 300- 500 yards of receiving. If the Oilers had him I would've been ecstatic. And he's having another monster game today.
