So why drive up to the perceived threat? If the situation is unknown why not keep your distance, stay in the squad car and voice demands such as "drop the weapon and show your hands" over the loud speaker every squad car has and judge from a distance to determine if the perceived threat is actually a legitimate threat? Did I just invoke too much common sense for cops to handle?

 

Tamir Rice pulled a gun out when cops came up on him. That shooting was completely justified.

John Crawford's wasn't. Cops pulled the trigger too early and those cops should face repercussions. It's a travesty they didn't.

Mike Brown attacked Officer Wilson and was justifiably shot for it.

In Eric Garner's case, there was definitely enough evidence to suggest an indictment. That cop, at a minimum, should not have his badge anymore.

 

Stop making assertions without credible evidence. Let's invoke some logic here. Did Tamir Rice have any history of mental illness or depression that would make him pull out a toy gun that obviously resembled a real one on the officers. Did Tamir Rice think this was an elaborate game and he thought that the cops had toy guns and he pulled out his toy gun? What legitimate reason would he have to pull out a toy gun in a motion that would seem as if he was about to open fire. What I think actually happened was Tamir Rice already had his toy weapon out and it wasn't "drawn" when he saw the officers. It was drawn before they arrived. It would almost be justified if he drew out the weapon as the police officers were approaching. It is difficult to tell in the video one way or the other but it is clear that there was no more than 2 seconds between the cops opening their doors and gunning the kid down.

Like I said in my previous post, why not just FROM A DISTANCE over the load speaker of the squad car give commands to the kid to make sure he is a legitimate threat. The fact that they couldn't use that level of basic common sense should be enough grounds for them to be at the very least terminated from their jobs.

 

What legitimate reason did Rice have to pull the plastic orange marker from the airsoft gun, other than to make it appear more realistic? What logical reason did he have for brandishing it in public and pointing it at people? Rice didn't think about his actions or clearly understand how it would affect others and himself. This kid didn't think logically like an adult.

From the video, his hands are around his waist as the cops pull up. If he had the gun in hand, he should have dropped it and put his hands up. He didn't do that. If the gun was in his waist, why were his hands around his waist?

The video is grainy, but it supports my view of the events more than it supports yours. And it supports the officer's version of the events; unfortunately, we cannot hear Rice's version.

In a previous post from the Hangout thread about Rice's situation, I firmly stated that the officers shouldn't have pulled up right in front of Rice and they bumbled that. It's a mistake that they can correct by teaching officers to give more space in gunman situations in the future. Rice may be alive if that happened, but that's a theoretical. The cops shouldn't be fired because they didn't make the best optimal split-second decisions. That's hindsight.

 

Anti cop bigots are the worst type of bigots in today's society. They all should get robbed and beaten by the criminals the defend.

Wow... you might actually have the lowest opinion of cops out of this entire message board. The fact that you believe that one has to "teach" a group of officers to slowly approach the perceived threat to determine if the perceived threat is legitimate shows you have a low perception of the amount of common sense these individuals have. This is basic common sense that does not require ANY HINDSIGHT. Yes, they should be fired for not showing ANY AMOUNT OF COMMON SENSE AT ALL. A cop without common sense is a dangerous cop.


Do you honestly believe that one has to be "taught" to analyze the threat from a distance first and not barge in like an action movie? Honestly... Do you actually believe that?

 

How about the guy who got killed in a walmart for holding a toy gun he pulled off the shelf? And in a state that it's legal to carry fire arms in the open including at a Walmart.

If guns are legal, why are only white people able to carry them around without getting shot?
