Drewdog, you should live here because, unlike other places in the state and in the USA, you actually can afford to buy a house here (just in case you don't relocate). The restaurants are better, and besides, Yao Ming lives here, and he wouldn't live here if it wasn't a cool place to live!:p

If you can live inside the 610 Loop, do it. You're closer to all the good stuff and won't have to spend your entire life in traffic (well, less of your life anyway).

If you can, you should ask people on this board what parts of Houston aren't completely underwater in a hard rain. As you know, Houston floods like a muhfu@ka....although you just might have to take your chances on that.

Good luck. And take the damned job. It sux to be po'.

I wouldn't be able to find an apartment for that cheap in the hoods of DC! That sounds like a great deal.

Houston sucks. You need to wait until Feb. 3rd. A good job offer will come along then. ;)

    Low cost of living
Living inside the loop eliminates traffic concerns
One of best resturant cities in the nation
Several professional sports franchises that cannot move
    Theater, opera, symphony
    Concert venues
Did I mention low cost of living?

However...its flat. Although I live on the southern end of the Heights so I actually live on a rather large hill.

Houston DOES suck. You need to wait until November, 2009. You'll find your dream job then, and it will be well worth the wait.

I had an interview today with a company in Austin, and I will soon find out if I got that job sometime early next week.

    Here is my predicament:

I have to tell the company in Houston by Dec 2nd if I plan on accepting their offer.

I wont find out about the Austin job until Dec 2-4th most likely. (Never mind the fact that it pays $10,000 less than the job in Houston  ).

How do I get some more time to consider an offer that was made to me yesterday afternoon (in Houston), without souring the situation??

Just tell the people in Houston that you need a couple of more days to decide.

I want to move to Houston now! I thought Austin apartment prices were cheap, but I'm getting hosed compared to your deal!

I pay $750 for a 750 sq. ft. apt... no ammentiies. i pay EVERYTHING! (gas, water, garbage, utilities, cable, phone). :(

i want to live in houston again.

edit: i'll take the job in houston if ya don't want it! ;)

This could sour the situation as the potential employer will take that to mean one of 2 things:

    1) He's indecisive
    2) He's merely using the offer to leverage another company.

Neither of these are good...so it must be done very carefully.

drapg, you're getting bent over and anally raped on your rent. There's tons of empty apartments going for much cheaper in the Arboretum, Metric, and Wells Branch areas of Austin. My roommate and I are moving out of Greystone Park (Far West) in January, and we're finding a luxury apt in NW Austin.

BTW, Houston is nothing more than a polluted, corporate town, that has no scenic beauty, and is filled with strip malls.
