that is how i found the site. though i didnt actually sign up until the next february(back then it wasnt required). this site kicks the ass of rockets.com in every way shape and form.
It's sad when you read an old, obscure thread like that one and find yourself remembering all the posts. Man, that was four years ago, now. Memory lane is a trip.
I first learned of this site from this article. Of course it took a but longer for me to find the BBS. Here's the cover of that one in case you want to see it in print:
i started comming to this site when the year after we got Barkley. i do not know how i found it. but i waited a couple of years to go to the bbs. i also think it woudn't be in the best interest of clutchcity if we get a link on rockets.com. then there are even more members, and it will take alot more time of clutch and the crew. and like gater said, i do not want even more people without a opinion. or just people trying to troll
Wow. I actually remember reading that thread. Seriously, but it was because it was during a memorable time. Wow.
GATER: For those of us who have been here supporting Clutch since the beginning, it is not about drawing in more fans. Clutch has done a brilliant job of that by providing us all with the best site on the web. What this is about is respect and acknowledgement. Other than Tim, the Rockets have never been willing to mention the site publically. Other than trying to protect themselves from copyright infringement, neither has the Chronicle. This is clearly the single most important spot anywhere for news and information about the Rockets. It is CLEARLY the number one destination for fans wanting to discuss the Rockets. Yet, the very team the site is supporting won't mention us in public despite the fact that they visit here and use this site as a source of information for hwo they market to the fans. The only newspaper in Houston, whose reporters visit here on a daily - sometimes hourly - basis to get information and story ideas won't do a story on the site or acknowledge it unless they are concerned about protecting themselves as in the credit given to Clutch for the uniform photos. This site is like the giant red elephant lying in the middle of the room that no one will discuss but everyone knows is there, and no, I'm not talking about Thomas Hamilton. You'd just think that after six years of existence, the very people who rely on ClutchCity.net for their information and data would be willing to dare breathe mention of it, maybe even work with it (shocking!). Instead, the site goes on with everyone knowing its here, swarmed daily by Rockets staff and members of the media and not a sole mentioning its name in public. Given that Clutch is my good friend and business partner, it frustrates me to no end that he is paid so little public recognition for his tireless work and I MEAN tireless. Maybe Clutch should change the name to ClutchLepers.com since no one will seem to touch the site with a 10 foot pole - at least until they need help or information.
Tim, I can understand why Rockets.com does not link here, however if the league was ok with it I think greater benefit could be acheived by getting with Clutch and discussing how there could be some partnership for Rocket info. I did a Google search and a Yahoo search on Houston Rockets and got this site right under the Rockets.com site. So the sites are linked pretty close for those who are looking for Rocket info. Let's come out of the closet. Tim, you have been a great encouragement to many of us fans who look at both sites on a daily basis. Thanks
Rockets dot com linking to hoopsworld but not clutch city makes sense, because rockets dot com does not want their readers linking to a better site and never, ever going back to rockets dot com. except, of course, to read abolutely hilarious picture captions like this from today's installment: "Bostjan Nachbar was an assist and a point shy of a double double Wednesday." until clutch starts hyping double-singles on the front page, this site will never get the recognition it deserves. in other news. clutchcity.net will never get the recognition it deserves. thanks clutch, by the way
Jeff - In total honesty, thank you for taking the time to explain. And I agree with your sentiments. Perhaps I was being a bit selfish with my concerns about posting quality...I didn't have to read any of those Garnett dreamcasts did I? After reading your take, I now see why a Rockets link to h*world is a slap in the face. Except for an occassional stop at RealGM to catch some newspaper headlines and some statistical searches, this is the only basketball website I visit...why go anywhere else? I consider being a member of CC a priviledge not a right and have always tried to add more than I ever take out (at least from an quality of information aspect). Clutch and the Crew maintain a level of excellence that we as posters should not only be thankful for but should also aspire to. Clutch (and Crew)...if you're reading this..."thanks" and I'll get more than square with ya'all once I find another job. Bank it.
This really stinks. I'd love to hear something from Tim on it, but really I'd love to hear something from someone else over there and someone from the Chronicle too. We all know they're here and we all know they're reading and this really is a huge slight to both Clutch and the thousands of fans that support the team by supporting the site. Somebody really ought to say something.
I have been a member a few times.... but following this site for along time (quite a few years now). If you are looking for great topics, something rockets related, or just a place to share your intrest in the team with other fans this is the site to come to. I have lost my account because on many occasions through out school and life i dont have the time to post (not quality post as gater would call them) sometimes only to read. But while not every post is created equal our opinions are. Thats whats great about cc. I personally just want to take the oppurtunity to applaud you guys and thank the crew for the great job you guys do!! I would go insane w/out this site!
Jorge, I hardly think Tim has to defend himself. He's been the only one cool enough to participate in the BBS (and to admit he and the Rockets are getting something from it). I appreciate him. It's every single other Rockets employee, official, whatever, and every Chronicle writer who uses this site and then pretends it doesn't exist that I have a problem with. And, you know, I could half understand the virtually total lack of acknowledgement and respect if it weren't for the linking to freaking h00psw0rld. That's just insult to injury.
Batman Jones, I don't think the intent is to slam Tim, at least not by most However Tim is the VP of marketing so certainly he has some say in what does and does not go up on Rockets.com. I for one would like to know why the slight and if anything is going to be done about it. No disrespect to Tim is intended at all. Personally I think he is awsome for even taking the time to post and answer the questions here at clutchcity.net and I am hoping that he will stop and take the time to discuss this issue with us like he has done so many other times.
This isn't on Tim. I can pretty much guarantee you he isn't the one making those decisions. But, since he is the one who posts here, it's logical to ask him if he can explain for the organization. Just don't freak too hard on him, personally.
Now that's comedy. To be honest, it's really an issue that Clutch and I have talked about. I'd like to respect those conversations and keep my responses there for the time being. No offense to anyone -- I just have a lot of respect for Clutch, and think that's appropriate in this case. Trader_Jorge, whassup with all that calling people out stuff? Tim
