Wow! I'm suprised by the responses (especially at a Rockets web site). I think the Astros are - just okay. I don't think they'll win it all this year (yes - I'm prepared to eat crow with that statement). And I'm not a big fan of baseball in general. I enjoy going to baseball games when I don't have to pay for it, but I enjoy basketball a LOT more. Lemme tell you a story... - - - - - - - - begin story My dad isn't a very emotional, sentimental guy. When I was a kid, he didn't do a lot of playing with me or my brothers, and wasn't a guide in my life in just about any way you can think of. But this didn't mean that he didn't love me. My dad would come home from work and follow the same routine, night after night during basketball season. He would turn the thermostat down to sub-arctic temperature, take off his clothes down to his underwear, put his beer in the fridge (the absolute cheapest beer he could find - usually Falstaff). He would get his bag of fried pork skins ready, tune in the Rockets on the TV, turn down the volume of "those idiot announcers", and turn on his AM radio to listen to Gene Peterson. And I would watch with him. Different people show their love in different ways, and he and I enjoyed the Rockets games together. Today, I don't drink the beer or eat the pork skins. I don't strip to my undies and make the room freezing. But I watch the Rockets, and I listen to Gene (I don't think the TV guys are that bad, but they ain't Gene). And I think of my dad (who is now miserable because, due to obvious health reasons, he is no longer able to drink his beer and eat the pork skins). Compared to that, baseball ain't ****. - - - - - - - - end story Hey Nick - I can't really sell these tix - they're owned by my firm and there will be co-workers there (higher-ups at the firm) who will be expecting me to show up. And how long has it taken you guys to figure out that I'm nuts? You shoulda known that about me long ago. .. but I'm a great person at heart -- droxford
What! You can't say you're a good person at heart. That's like saying, "I am the most humblest person in the world." You need that kind of stuff to be validated by other people. Sheesh. BTW: I think droxford is a great person at heart
no matter what the sport is, theres still nothing like going to a game with a playoff atmosphere. i'd go watch world badminton finals if it meant spending time with a bunch of loud, crazy, over the top, drunk, screaming fans. i was at the game yesterday and theres nothing that can top the atmosphere at minute maid after beltran hit the home run yesterday. it was absolutely insane. its really a rush to be there and experience the craziness...
Well. usually my posts only reflect my crazy, nutty, angry and bitter opinions, and usually don't project my warmer sides. (And thanks for validating me!) -- droxford
I've always been suspicious of people who sign their own message board posts. In any case, even if you don't follow baseball that much...the experience of a home playoff game is intense. It is quite memorable. I was at Game 4 of the Braves series and was in awe. But enjoy the game nonetheless.
I'm still dumbfounded. I'm scrambling trying to get tickets for tonight, and you gave up free ones!!!
Like I said man...HARDCORE. You're either the biggest Rocket fan I've ever seen. Clinically insane... or...no, I think that about covers it. Maybe it's just the fact that I have about equal interest in all 3 teams. I usually go by order of # of games available to go to. Texans 8 games > Rockets 41 games > Astros 81 games Playoffs though.... Texans (up to 2 home games MAX) > Astros (Up to 11 games max) > Rockets (Up to 16 games Max) Astros playoffs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rockets preseason, but that's just my opinion. Have fun at the game though. 20 bucks says you see Pike hit about 8 threes in the game.
They were kinda hoping that I would take the Rockets tickets anyway - the Astros tickets will probably go to an important client. -- droxford
Are you sure you're a "dr" ? That doesn't mean Ph. D., does it? Or is it DDS? I am still wondering why you and DaDakota sign every post with your names, eventhough we know who is posting by reading the pane on the left... And thanks, Mr. Meowgi, for stealing my stealing of the video on the Astros' board... My Original Post in That Thread
I'm not a doctor. I sign my name after every post because bbs threads primarily utilize a vertically designed compositional device. In English, it's easier to read as you scan and scroll down the page. and I didn't put it into a sig because I don't want a horizontal rule. -- droxford
You're a pimp, dude. That's all I can say. THIS is the type of fan that makes me proud to be a Rockets fan. And by the way, I would have done the same thing.
no, playoff trump regular season which trumps preseason Except for certain games/matchups I'd go with.... Texans playoffs > Astros Playoffs > Rockets playoffs > Texans Regular > Rockets Regular > Astros Regular > Under that...I'd probably go Astros Spring Training > and then a toss up between Rockets/Texans preseason. Astros spring training gets the nod since it's not in Houston
You made the right choice oxford. Seeing a rox game with Yao, Tracy and co is greater than any baseball game, playoffs or no. baseball, yawn.
