I just got back from my trip, and it reminded again about how much I hate the little tv screens on the back of every seat in the plane. It's ancillary income for them by being a persecution for me. I don't want to use them because they want to charge money for something I can already do on my own device for free. But, even if you turn your screen off, the two people sitting next to you still have there's on, plus the people in the rows ahead of you. Then the pilot will make a PA announcement and when he's done, your screen turns back on. And when you won't pay, they'll bombard you with the same teaser crap and advertisements again and again. You can't get away from it. It's some "15 Million Merits" apocalypse, essentially. I'd like to just sit and read my book. And, if I feel like watching a movie or playing a game, I can provide for that myself, thanks.
So even if you turn your screen off, what bothers you is the site of other people's screens in your peripheral vision? There are much bigger problems to deal with on airplanes today, IMO.
I can recall at least one plane that went down due to the faulty wiring of an in-flight entertainment system. Yea...it's great when it works. Can't wait for the story when the chair starts smoking because the TV wiring got frayed. OH YEA...GREAT MOVIE!!!
I think the little TVs are great. Especially on Virgin, I just order food and drinks off the screen- watch the live tv streams for free. It made my transcontinental flight a lot better.
Haha, I had a nice chortle at this. Not really a big deal, but I will grant you it is annoying how if you have your screen turned off it turns back on whenever the pilot makes an announcement, lol.
Only costs $7 for a 2-3 hour flight. I always use them. And they have up to date movies I normally don't have time to watch. Actually just got back from SD and caught up on some movies.
The set up where u can use your own device is definitely the future of airline entertainment. It's also much more affordable to them from a infrastructure standpoint, and doesn't risk getting fully obsolete in 5-10 years. Of course then, people will complain that they shouldn't have to use their own devices... And one should be provided or some other entitled stuff.
