How about Alexy Shved They describe him as "The Russian Penny Hardaway" Thats a pretty bold comparison And here he is on draft express I want me some Penny
Most people considered Barry to be a beast of an athelete back then but he was mostly just smart (and still is). I wish more passers utilized the old penetrate back out and then pass in move that he did like a hundred times in that video. Tmac does it sometimes but it seems like most passers feel like they have to drive all the way in to get someone open. Drive into a double, draw them out of the paint and pass into the paint. The draw and kick in is more effective than the drive and kick out.
Very observant. And very true. Watch Chris Paul and Steve Nash, and you see a LOT of that. How do you think someone as slow as Mark Jackson is 2nd all time in the NBA in assists? These PGs take their time. It's almost like a dribbling jab step and then pop back. It A.) opens up a midrange step-back jump shot, B.)draws defenders to open interior passes/lobs (see: all of tyson chandler's points) C.)Sets up the defender for a blow-by (they step forward to close out the jumpshot, you waltz right by--steve francis did this all the damn time), and, D.) makes future drives more deadly because a defender has to respect a small hesitation move It's a midrange nuance that most PG's don't get. If you're a good enough ballhandler, you can get into the midrange and play puppet master with the defense. Most defenses are geared to help at the rim...when you camp out in the midrange, you put help defenders in no-mans-land. Rafer could do this more, with his dribbling ability. What's more exciting is brooks...with his quickness and blow-by ability, if he learns to beat the first defender and then stop, while keeping his dribble, and take his time, Yao and Landry will feast on lobs. Maybe Barry, more than just some minutes off the bench, can mentor AB with his knowledge of the game. Get it done boys.
