The vast majority of the looting that is taking place was NOT for necessity... It is only two days after the storm, it is not like the people are starving to death. There are hundreds of thousands of MRE's in New Orleans and people aren't starving. I know times must be rough there, but not rough enough to walk off with TVs and Jewelry and bag loads of goods. I have NO problem with people taking off with goods that are needed but taking MORE then what is needed is far from right. So this kid should gank 5 loaves of bread to feed his one family while others have none? We're both making assumptions that there is even food in the bag to begin with, so the argument is really moot...

A woman walks through chest-deep water as she heads to loot a grocery store in New Orleans, Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, as floodwaters continue to rise after Hurricane Katrina made landfall on Monday.

so in one instance, it's seeing goods in their hands that they "found."

in another, it's not even goods in her hands, just "naturally" assuming she's "heading to loot" some place.

    nice..

That's why i said that if it was for groceries i could care less. But if they were looting to get stuff like tv's and crap that is just wrong and stop them or arrest them in some senese..but not if they are taking food...let them take as much food and water as they want.

mmmm...nothing like a good loaf of bread that's been soaking in flood water. Got any day old unrefrigerated mayo to go with that?

Each police officer stopping a looter is not helping in the rescue of someone who needs it. I'm all for stopping the looting, but rescue 1st, bust looter's heads 2nd.

Right, I wasn't calling him out either--is it "looting" when you are getting diapers, water and food in a city that just experienced the Apacalypse?

In one instance, you're talking about a French media source. In the other, you're talking about an American media source. Why would you expect the two to use identical terminology? It would be one thing is the same person used different terminology for this. But you're talking two different writers/reporters, two different news agencies, and two different countries. If I write "found" somewhere you write "looted" somewhere, does that make one of us racist?

I think many of us are forgetting the circumstances the these people have just faced. Now, I'm not saying it is morally correct to loot a tv, but we also have to remember that these people have just had their entire "lives" destroyed. Imagine if your house and everything it is was swept away by water and you were trapped within the city limits, not sure where to go, or possibly even where you will sleep...We all may not agree with the actions of these looters, but let's at least empathize with the fact that when the human spirit is dealt such a strong blow, morality can become slightly clouded.

Well, they may have asked her while taking the picture where she was going and she might have told them she was going looting. Or, perhaps after he took the picture, he watched where the woman went, and she went looting. They might not have been assuming anything. Or maybe they were; I don't know.

Hopefully, I will be able to "find" food and supplies If I'm ever in need like those guys, I wouldn't want to "loot" anything.

You're right. I've really never actually payed any attention to those little logos next to Yahoo!'s pictures before until you pointed it out. Point taken.

Sorry if it sounded like I was targetting you specifically. I had just read a lot of these gripes (especially on the D&D forum) and finally decided to respond. I didn't mean to point you out specifically. I think a lot of people are just seeing them as Yahoo pictures, so the confusion makes sense.
