thats a desire, not a need. you dont need beer to survive. For all you know, for some people stealing tv's helps them ease the pain, for some its getting drunk...

you yourself said survival neccesities, and then go back and list beer, which is nothing more than a luxury item for most.

To the tragedy of the story, a bottle opener would never be found throughout the area ;)

Thing is, I'm sure the water was already gone. I cannot begrudge anyone looting anything consumable, luxury or otherwise.

The description says he was looting a grocery store, but the other people "found" stuff at a grocery store. Harrisment wasn't the one labeling them, just pointing it out.

That's hilarious. No one that clean cut and white could be looting!

Looting isn't great but I think it's a pretty minor point here given the circumstances. For one, civilization has pretty much broken down in New Orleans right now. The government can do little to either control nor to help individuals. For two, most businesses will be insured, and insurance companies will be calling these things total losses anyway. Will a store that was flooded be able to sell a plasma TV whether the unit itself was flooded or not? It's a loss. And the companies can't check over every item and make an assessment as to whether it is good or not. If an individual though takes it, he can care for the item and assess how good it is. For three, looters may have actually saved a good deal of stuff from destruction. The plasma TV is better off in the 3rd floor apt of some looter than it is in the submerged 1st floor store. Other things like blue jeans or purses that would be destroyed by water can be properly dried out and reused by a looter.

I think finding one loaf of bread and some soda is different then walking off with a HUGE bag of goods... but hey, that's just me.

So if in the bag the happen to have 5 loafs of bread and whatever so they dont' have to wade through waist high water to get more when they run out and are starving, that would be a bad thing?

We don't know what's in the bag but either way at this point those things are minor to me. If they are looting places like walmart and taking crap they can't even use becuase they want it etc than i have a problem with it.

To survive and get necessities....then go ahead and take it all and survive after this dissaster...all that food is going to go bad either way so why not let some people who are in dire need survive off of it.

I can't believe he crammed one down his back pocket, too... these 40 bottles aren't enough - oh wait, I can jam another one in here.
