You don't want to die, but you want to join the military now? I admire your patriotism, but get your degree.
If I had to pick I'd go with Navy. A couple relatives did the Navy and said they have the best accomodations and whatnot. They were very adamant about it too. At the end of high school, I got very stressed and tired of going over college after college, so I went into an army recruiting office one afternoon to try something completely different. The guy was nice enough but after I took his test, he was VERY nice to me. To be fair though, the test I took was easier than TAAS but I don't think I missed any. He said I could do anything I wanted in the military with my score which was fun but it was the same problem I had with picking a college so I ultimately let it go and opted for mighty UT, where I'm reasonably certain I wont get shot at by anything but an iceblock. If they really wanted to increase recruiting numbers, they'd re-release Top Gun in theatres.
Do you like to shoot? If so, I'd strongly consider the Marines since they emphasize the lost art of marksmanship moreso than the other branches... If you get in with the MEU's you get to shoot the better guns...
Exactly. Greatest branch you could ever join. IF you want to better yourself and not just be a civilian in fatigues (air farce), join the Corps. It will make you a much mentally tougher man. I'm a fourth generation Marine (my great-grandfather served in Haiti in the early 1900's) and the Corps has been good to my family. Once you put on the globe and anchor, you become part of a brotherhood of warriors. So if you want to accomplish something of merit, join the Corps. If you want it easy and not have to worry about people shooting at you, join the Navy or Air Farce.
I would do the air force. I looked at the Academy (a friend of mine a year earlier was accepted to it) and ROTC route. The biggest thing I saw was: -In the Air Force men and woment trained together so physically I woudl think it's less demanding on a man -As other have mentioned the other services protect the Air Force in combat. So I would guess fatalities in the Aire Force is less than the other branches (note: I have not researched that so i could be entirely wrong)
The Coast guard is excellent. A neighbor of mine's been in the Coast guard for some 20 yrs. His pay is good. Housing allowance is plenty. His wife does not work and she drives a Mercedes. He got to go to college. He got to travel. He's spent 2-3 years each in places like Hawaii, Japan. He was in Houston but just moved to San Francisco. His retirement benefits is also good, he is set for life. And you do serve your country!
But you haven't seen the dope ad, yo? It's all like this random guy starts climbing the marines cliff of rock like a million feet off the ground and then he like gets to the top and there's a magma-crusted fire-spitting demon beast with glowing red eyes and burning hemroids, yo, and the bald lumpy beast tries to get the random guy but the random guy rolls around and swings his sword of the willing and then like the demon beast (note, with dark skin, yo) like falls over and belches one last arabic breath of death and then the random guy is all like TENNNN-SHUN! standing straight like a righteous corncob got put in his benefit-reduced ass and then a uniform is painted on him in a good photoshop way, yo, and then like he's A MARINE! So you have to join the marines. I would, totally.
Traditionally, if you want to avoid becoming a casualty, you eliminate the Army and Marines, right off the bat. IN the 4 main services, you are left with Navy and Air Force. To distinguish, I;d say it depends; in a contemporary conventional conflict you might choose the AF, as the greatest mort. rate position, bombers, have been drastically improved and made 'safer', but in most cases lacking a conflict with another major power, you;re safest at sea, where most minor powers cannot reach, and unlike the AF, you also don't really go into their zones of influence except on leave. So, barring a war with China, etc., I'd say the Navy.
Most jobs in the Air Force are not flying planes...only a few people do that. You'll learn some cool engineering and mechanical stuff in the Air Force and NOT be stuck on a boat 6 months a year.
Don't know who you've been talking to, but it's closer to nine months nowadays... I'd still recommend the Navy, though. Navy Pilots >>>>>>>>>>>>> Air Force Pilots, anyway...
the Coast Guard gets into more firefights than any other service (excluding our present military obligations). The Air Force by far have the best facilities and housing. If you want to be taken care of, join the Air Force. The "lost art of marksmanship" is emphasized in both the Army and the Marines. If you want the best equipment, weapons and training, go Army. If you want to be brainwashed, join the Marines. While the Navy sounds all good, if you are not put in an office somewhere stateside, you'll spend 6 months out of a year in the fleet.
