I don't know how anyone could hate on Shaq.

I was speaking for myself, not for the board.

Yeah, it could be my problem. And it could be American's problem. Whatever. But don't confuse arrogance with confidence. They are not the same thing.

And I said I didn't "hate," just "disliked."

    Peace

    No, I wouldn't.

I can't stand arrogance. He's not the only player that can bring Gary a championship so he shouldn't boast that. Like I said, his team didn't even make the Finals last year, so what is he talking about?

I like Shaq. If L.A. wants to blame someone. Blame the kid named Kobe. He gives his props to where it belongs. Heck, he gave props to dream for kicking his butt when Shaq was still in Orlando. I actually would have loved to see him in a Rockets uniform playing with Hakeem. Every time I've met him he's been totally cool. He might talk some trash occasionally but hey it builds up competition in this spotlight world. When Yao came into the league everyone was hyping him up. Shaq being the most dominant center in the NBA was of course going to say.. BRING IT ON! If Kobe didn't have such a big head I don't think Shaq would really be in Miami right now. So for the Fakers Fans they need to stop blaming the man who was really responsible for getting that city three championships in a row. They need to point their fingers on their over bonafide second fiddle player. When Shaq was playing the Spurs I always rooted for him to woop Duncan, Robinson and all of those Chumps.

Apologies for my delayed response; I haven't had much opportunity to get online in the past couple of days. And anyway, I don't feel as though I had anything else to contribute to the thread, since I responded to the OP, who seemed to think that it's difficult/impossible to "hate on" Shaq (I agree with Easy, BTW, in that I dislike Shaq rather than hate him; "hate" is a little strong to describe my attitude towards him). And also I responded to macfan, who intimated that people who don't like Shaq have some kind of problem. I don't want to respond to dharocks' post because I don't feel as though I should have to defend my reasons for not liking someone; what do you care why I don't like Shaq?

One reason that I don't like him is that he's not nearly as good as most basketball fans think he is, but the biggest reason is that he's not nearly as good as he should be. I don't think he ever took basketball as seriously as he should have, just imagine if he had Michael Jordan's work ethic, will, and motivation to win MVPs and championships. He would be, without a doubt, the greatest player of all time, instead he seems to draw his motivation from money and revenge, at least recently.

It also bugs me that everyone completely ignores a center's two biggest responsibilities on a basketball court when talking about Shaq. The most recent example of this was last year's game seven, I mean, everyone says they lost because he didn't get the ball down the stretch. Whatever. Truth is he got the ball more than enough, more than anyone else on offense, what really needs to be said is that he didn't grab a rebound or block a shot in that fourth quarter. Completely ignored because it's Shaq, lets also forget that free throw he missed late in that game as well.

All the stuff outside of basketball, how am I supposed to know? I don’t know him. To those he's cool with he seems like a nice guy, but all I KNOW is how he plays on a basketball court and the things he says that are basketball related. Just compare statements from him and Hakeem, Hakeem was super humble, always about team, and defense first, all that good stuff, Shaq is about himself and offense first.

It's cool though, to each his own.

Shaq the person .. is an admirable one
Shaq the celeb . . . . maybe less so

    I mean . . . people b*Tch about odd stuff
Like folx b*tching at Vince Carter for attending his own graduation
then b*tch about high schoolers not going to school at all

People b*tch about players being thugs
but hate on shaq. . who not only WANTS to be a police man
but is ACTUALLY TRAINING AND DOING IT

People b*tch about players not giving back
then Hate one Shaq even when he gives back in a major way

People will hate because they are HATEFUL!!!

Shaq is a kid. A gigantic, muscular, yet chubby kid. He is generally very funny and kind. However, he gets upset easily and throws temper tantrums. Shaq in a nutshell.

Shaq was a former Topps spokesman. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but those that did had nothing but nice things to say about the guy.

Now, on the other hand, Barry Bonds (a current spokesman)... well... uh... err... [looks at watch] Hey, would you look at the time? Gotta go.

My first time viewing this thread since reading the initial post. I wondered why people kept responding and responding.

Shaq is a big kid at heart. I disliked him strongly when he was with the Lakers because of my feelings about the Lakers. Yes he is both arrogant and confident. He is definitely not humble. Yes he toots his own horn a lot and deliberately calls attention to himself. Obviously he should have been more dedicated to the game of basketball and to keeping himself in shape.

All of the above is probably true of most NBA players. With Shaq, everything is magnified. He's OK with me now that he's not a Laker. The only Laker I ever really liked was Magic.
