“Human character” is what has to fix these issues. Again, the government won’t help people it will however destroy them. Growth as a people. Accountability. Character. That will take man much further than government “assistance”
Fascinating. I'm glad to hear teen pregnancy and half of African American households not having a father doesn't occur in blue states. That's amazing! Society should value and promote abstinence until marriage because that is what is best for humans. It's best for the parents and the child. Responsible use of the sexual faculties in an appropriate environment. This isn't a revolutionary theory. That notion doesn't need to be predicated on religion. Is my suggestion worse then yours? What was the rate of single parent households and teen pregnancy before 1960 and what was it after? I'd be interested to know. Contraception is available at pretty much every gas station in the United States AFAIK and we still have big problems when it comes to irresponsible pregnancy and childbearing. I don't know that there is a "solution" to that. People make poor choices. It should be stressed upon them that negligent or irresponsible use of their sexual faculties will likely negatively impact their life, their partners life and any children they have lives. Many people manage to avoid this by responsible use of their sexual faculties.
Lots of folks who don't have fathers grow up to be great fathers. My dad's dad died when he was 6. He's been a great dad. You can become a good father without having a good father or any father at all. People don't like to be responsible or to suffer. They want to do what feels good and they want to do it now. In terms of their sexual faculties, that leads to really really tragic circumstances. People need to be better.
Did I say that? Nope. Good to know that @HTM knows what is best for all of humanity. Maybe you should start your own religion? My guess is you won't get many people to take your advice in a free country. Your suggestion already happens though? The leading religion of this country preaches your suggestion, why aren't people listening? We're acting like you are suggesting some revolutionary idea when...really, people know about abstinence until marriage and simply don't want to do it. Before and after 1960s doesn't change anything, the major religion in this country STILL preaches that, it's just that people are tuning it out and don't care. It's simply not popular in a country where people can advertise what they want to advertise and do what they want to do...your suggestion has already been tried and it has, according to you, failed. Well, my solution actually works. Multiple studies show that teaching young people simple Sex Ed reduces teen and unwanted pregnancies. Scolding doesn't work. Anyone that's known a teenager that if you tell them NOT to do a thing...they will go do it, especially when every part of their body is telling them, urging them, to do this thing. That's a natural part that you want to dismiss on 'being animals' but thats the reality of our biology. You are right, people make poor choices, but being abstinent is still not a necessity, no matter how much you want it to be...because again, there's an entire industry of people that do nothing but have sex and never have children. Contraception works. If people don't want to use its various forms though...that's on them. But it's not 'Be abstinent or have unwanted babies!' that's not the choice that lies before people.
And you can have great character but without job or educational opportunities you're probably not going to get too far in life. Again if values were all that mattered then drug addiction would've been solved by "Just Say No" and teen pregnancy by purity pledges. Neither of those seem to work very well. Also again this isn't just about government handouts. As stated government can help by encouraging investment in many troubled areas. Also other institutions can also help too.
This issue of generational poverty also isn't just a black problem. As noted there are many parts of this country like Appalachia where generational poverty is mostly white people. Many of the same issues apply. Broken families, lack of economic opportunities, and drug addiction.
To restate again. Issues of generational poverty and long standing crime are important but shouldn't distract from what happened in Buffalo. What happened there is a clear cut case of racially motivated hatred. Addressing one issue doesn't mean that you ignore the other. We can deal and should deal with multiple issues.
This is true But only @pgabriel cares about the more prevalent issue And gets all my 90s movies references like how the cycle is violence in the inner city almost got Cuba gooding jr until his father Laurence Fishburne stopped him in Boyz in the Hood
The government won’t take care of you. Not in a way that will help you. Look inward. Its the only way.
I'm just asking how do you solve a problem. So far here's what I am getting. We need to focus on black on black crime. Black on black crime is a result of a chain of black men not having their fathers Not having fathers active in their lives not only leads to bad behavior but also them being bad/absent fathers to their children The solution is that they just need to be better fathers and more responsible. That just seems to be restating the problem as a solution. "The solution is they need better character" "The solution is they need to do x,y,or z" "The kids just need to over come it like this person did" Well that's not happening on it's own. That's just restating the problem as the solution. This has been a problem for a long time now, so it doesn't seem that saying they need to have better character is going to change anything.
