Not many people would have left you their contact information, but some do. Not everyone would have admitted to it to make the process less painful for everyone, but he did. The ball is in your hands. If you're willing to stick him with an overpriced bill after he admitted to it, what's to say you wouldn't have done the same had he left you his information? The temptation exists in both cases. You're using something as an excuse to justify your motive.
Sounds like the collision repair places are ripping you off first....If i were you i'd collect the $500, then get referrals here for a local guy who can get this done on their own for like half the price, it doesn't sound like a hard fix for someone with experience. Pocket the remaining $250 and call it day.
Yea, listen to the guy named Shady you are a piece of work, good job catching the guy, but you seem like an a-hole yourself
I think it would have been perfectly reasonable to say, "It will cost X dollars to fix my car, now, how much is it worth to you to not involve a police report or insurance companies?"
One guys opinion. Yours are coming out of the wrong hole. Carl Herrera hit it on the head. Depends, are you an *******?
OP sounds like he went overboard here. If I found a scratch on my car, it's very doubtful that I'd go back to wal-mart, ask for video surveliance, call the cops, track down the guy, consider extortion, and then start a thread about it on a basketball message board. OP, think about it. How important is your time to you? You just wasted a whole lot of time in your life that you will never get back over a scratch on a silly car. A piece of machinery that has no real meaning to whats important in life. My advice to you is to stop obsessing over this and move on. I'd hate to see how you react when something serious actually happens in your life, because this is nothing.
15 years ago I was at a warehouse theatre in the Heights talking with some friends after a play and we heard a loud car crash. We ran out and there was a brand new car smashed up in the ditch. And one of my friends said, "That's my car." The SUV that hit my friend's car was gone but I could see its lights in the distance so I knew which way he was going. Also he was leaving a trail of fluids that were leaking from his car. So I jumped in my car and chased him around the Heights at like 50 miles an hour, laying on my horn the whole way. It was maybe 11 or midnight and people were coming out of their houses to see what was going on. He was turning corners every block to try to lose me. He finally did and the leak had dried up and I thought, well, I can go left or right. So I just guessed and went left. I floored it, and saw the same car pulling into a gated complex (or waiting as the gate opened) off in the distance. I made it in time to get through the gate and cornered him. There were two of them actually, rich kids, and their fancy SUV was smashed up with my friend's car's paint on it from where they hit it. They tried to deny it for a minute but it was totally obvious. Then they said they'd go back and give my friend money. I said I'd follow them to make sure they did it and if they settled it with him, fine. But that I knew what they looked like and where they lived and if they didn't I'd get the cops after them right away. If they were cool about it and my friend was cool with whatever arrangement I said nobody will involve the cops. Driving back though, they tried several times again to lose me and we got in another high speed chase, me honking again all along the way. Finally, one of my friends who was driving around looking for me heard my horn nearby. He followed the sound, came around in front of them (with me behind them) and we cut them off and trapped them. We were a couple blocks from the theatre by then and they got out of the car. I was furious that they made me chase them twice and the driver was a total punk about it. He kept talking about how important his dad was and how we'd be in big trouble if we didn't just let them go. His friend was being cooler about it but the driver was a spoiled brat. While we were arguing he got back into his now trapped car and started tapping angrily on a laptop. Remember, this was 1996. Wireless didn't exist yet. So he might as well have been typing on a typewriter. I was yelling through his window, "What are you doing? Writing an angry letter to the editor?" About then the police showed up, alerted I guess by the horns or the neighbors and they took both kids to jail. They were drunk and underage and as they sat in the back of the car staring angrily at me, I laughed. So they went to jail for hit and run and drunk driving and just being drunk. When I got back to the theatre, my girlfriend was totally pissed and told me that the driver had dropped one of his license plates in the crash, right at the scene. So they would have been caught even if I hadn't chased them. But they would have had a chance first to sober up, concoct a story and contact the driver's very "important" father to help them out. This way they went to jail. Good. All hit and run drivers should. My friend eventually got a settlement that was somewhat lower than the cost of his car, which was totaled. But he's a mellow guy so he didn't fight it and opted not to testify in court. I guess the kids got off the hook eventually but at least they had to spend a night in jail. I've done that and I know it isn't very fun.
^ Batman, You obviously didn't realize it but your run-in with these 2 kids actually turned out to be with Fatty FatBastard and his buddy T.Rex. No wonder, Fatty doesn't like you!
I guess his time is as important to him as your time is of always getting on Clutchfans and going to the dish forum and defending your buttbuddy, the Queen to the bitter end. My advice to YOU is to stop obessing over Queen James and defending him in our NBA Dish forum and move on. I'd hate to see how you react when something serious actually happens in your life, because your fandom with the Queen is nothing.
when you called the a-hole did you use a cell phone? recent studies show a link b/t cell phones and brain tumors - exposure to such risks should bump up the price to $2,000.
Wow at the people who are saying to let the guy off because he admitted it. He admitted it because he was cornered and had no choice! Don't let people get away with dishonesty. That's one of the reasons this country is in the ****ter. Character and accountability have all but disappeared. Teach is guy a lesson- he may thank the OP for it some day.
There's really no excuse to act like a prick when you know you're going to be acting like a prick, imo.
Give his name and information to the BBS and let the ClutchFans E-Detective Task Force show him a thing or two about himself.
stick it to him. yeah he admitted to it, but it would be stupid to deny it when their is video evidence and your purchase places you at the scene of the crime. people like him are the scum of the earth and wont learn by getting off. I hit a parked car when I was 17 and had the decency to find the owner and pay for the damage.
