I still hope Harden has success, but it is an afterthought. Win a ring and blow up in time for us to get some good picks, por favor chancho

    I agree wholeheartedly.

We have come to love the NBA referees. Now that they have disappeared so much we all are experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

Please come back , our beloved refs! We especially miss the superstars such as Tony Brothers and Scott Foster.

Again, it’s not hand checking if the offensive is driving into a defender’s arms. The offensive player doesn’t haven’t a right to that space. If the offensive player is stationary, the defender may not extend their arm to impede the offensive player’s movement. That’s the rule.

either way it’s a foul under the “freedom of movement” rule that was installed years back

Perfect example this rockets/ nuggets game is boring as hell. Bricks thrown up left and right, obvious fouls not being called

I guess people like watching this garbage. Could never be me tho

The refs are terrible this year. And every year honestly.

The "unnatural motion" stuff made sense, but I agree the refs are just swallowing whistles now.

Not sure what you’re saying. Extended arms dont give defenders rights to extra space. Otherwise defenders would be holding hands like of game of Red Rover.

Harden drove directly into the defender when he saw the defender’s arm momentarily extended. That doesn’t become a defensive foul simply because he initiates contact with the defensive player’s arm. If the defensive player is using his extended arm to reroute the offensive player’s movement, that is a foul.

yea we'll see how long the league is thrilled that their marquee players are all shooting career lows from the field

After rewatching the clip you posted again in slow motion, I see your point. Harden didn’t drive directly into the defender, but instead took an angle where it can be argued his forward progress was impeded by the defender’s extended forearm. A foul was warranted there. Refs either felt the contact was incidental (which the rule book makes allowance for) or just plain missed it.

    From the WaPo story:

That's not that big of a difference. Again, I don't have any problem with the NBA's adjusted approach this year. Scoring averages have been going up every year; at some point, the league has to do something. No one wants 150-point games on the regular.

Also, while it’s a record low for FTAs per game so far, one also needs to take into account that the league has become much more (3 pt) jump shot oriented over the last few decades, and post play has plummeted. One should expect FTs to be way down due to that.

I would guess that a poll would show most people prefer the way the game is being called now compared to previous years.
