Rockets' ping pong balls are going to just lay down and die anyway... We have little hope. If the knicks get the number 1 pick, they will find a way to scew it up anyway. Milwaukee could be scary with Ming.
I agree. Been contemplating starting a thread about it. If the lottery is rigged despite 29 team representatives watching the 4 balls pop out of the random hopper, then can someone explain to me why the league office didn't want to give Tim Duncan to the Boston Celtics to bring back their glory days. Instead, Duncan goes to one of the smallest market teams in the league. Duncan was the most hyped and important draft pick in the last 10 years. Yeah...that was rigged!!!
I know you two are just joking around, but allow me to go ahead and say it correctly. It is 14 balls, labeled 1-14 or 0-13 (whatever). The hopper spits out 4 of those balls. The number of possible balls to come up in the first slot is 14. So that ball is gone. The next slot only has 13 ball left, then 12, then 11. Thus, the number of combinations is a product of that. Order does not matter (as it does in permutations) so you divide order out of it (the factorial of the number of balls pulled). Leaving us with: (14x13x12x11) / 4! = 1001 Four balls are picked from 14, with 29 teams watching. How can this be rigged?
To play devil's advocate, maybe the league knew that San Antonio would be good the next year? Elliot was hurt, Robinson was "hurt" the entire year. I think the league could see a potential juggernaut with the Spurs. Just playing devil's advocate.
that *was* 10 yrs ago. If I'm wrong...by all means tell me. But you could look it up first, like I did.
shaq was picked in 1992. this time 10 years ago he was at LSU and getting snubbed from the dream team. This time 9.9 years ago he was still waiting to be picked. Thus he was picked 'in the last ten years.' You didn't say 10 drafts, you said 10 years. Nice try. PLUS, there were four drafts (93,94,95,96) between Shaq and Duncan. Now Ming is the big center hype pick. So, you could say that every five years or so of late there has been a ultra-hyped pick.
That makes sense. What would they do with the left over combination. Give it to the Rockets Another question since it sounds that you know the process. Why the Atlanta Hawks (8th worse place) has only one less ball that the Knicks (7th worse place) if you look at the table (36 vs 37 balls). The other teams seem more evenly spread out. Just curious.
Iverson had alot of hype, but I think he wasn't a clear #1 pick till draft day. Marbury was supposedly considered.
Why don't you all realize that the Candy man is a FREE AGENT. The Clippers can't TRADE him. I have seen numerous trade ideas including him. Get this: they CAN'T HAPPEN.
One combination is a blank combination. If they draw it (remember, there's only a .01% chance of that happening), they draw again. Sometimes, they have to draw more than 3 times-if two combinations from the same team happen to show up. On another note, if memory serves, Memphis CAN NOT get the #1 pick-something to do with the expansion deal, which prohibits expansion teams from getting the #1 overall for the first 10 years-I may be wrong on that, but I remember that being the case a couple years ago. If I'm right, and the draw the #1, then they get the #2, and the next team gets #1.
think you...That is SO true. I got tired of explaining it last year with all the Chris Webber draft day trade speculation. Know this, no matter how hard you try people will still believe free agents can be traded on draft day. COMPAQ CENTER You can get a list of cominations on the internet. If they are 38/37 it sounds like they tied are are splitting combinations across two draft slots.
The reincarnation of heypartner. Well, they did announce trades on draft day last year, the idea being (Kidd for Starbury) that the trade couldn't be consummated until July 15. Or is there something I'm missing on that?
NIKE, how did the Magic get the #1 picks in both the '92 and '93 drafts....was that rule put in during the most recent expansion pool?
Actually, Atlanta and NY are not tied but there could be an error in the table that clutch provided unless someone can explain it. On the Rockets side. The following is approximation of their odds of draft position: 1st, 2nd or 3rd 30% 5th 30% 6th,7th or 8th 40% Not bad !
