I'm no expert on economics but that statement by McCain worries me. It seems like taking such a large amount of money out of the economy at a time like this would just make the situation worse. A lot of jobs are created by the money the government spends, probably not as many as it could if it were handled better, but a lot nonetheless.
haha, I actually think that the whole "change" cliche is overplayed and lame on our part.. but I'm really advocating basic common sense here.. I'm was a Ron Paul guy, and I am as socially conservative as you can get.. The fact that McCain said himself that he's "voted with the president over 90% of the time" is enough for me.. so this brings us to choices: 1. someone untested, unprepared, and could be an epic failure 2. someone who we already tested, and we're 100% sure that he's an epic failure.(note:we utilize our eyes and ears to come to this conclusion) yeah, I would definitely go with someone who's 90% likely to fail rather than someone who's 100% guaranteed to fail.. I could fantasize about the 10% possibility of success in the 1st scenario, which would get me through the day, but the second guy eliminates any fantasy I can enjoy => not good..
define "left", and give me specific instances and concrete details to support your contention that he's "more left than Kennedy" .. and btw, talk about an OBamatron, Mr. McCaintron lol .. this is straight from a McCain interview I heard a couple of days ago..
Rocketball, maybe you could list some of the reasons why you leaned toward Obama previously? I can't fathom with that extensive list why you would have previously supported Obama.
Well I voted for Clinton in '92 but voted for Dubya in '04 (came really close to not voting at all). Sure, there was some emotion involved in it but I felt like he was the best candidate. My parents ALWAYS vote whoever the party candidate is - I don't vote like that. Honestly, my biggest fear is that Obama is going to cut back on some defense spending which will immediately impact me and my family. That is probably the #1 reason why I can't vote for him and his relative inexperience as a political leader troubles me when it comes to foreign policy. Conservative enough means "conservative democrat" compared to "liberal democrat" just like there are "conservative republican" and "liberal republican". As mentioned above to bnb, I already stated the 2 big things that trouble me with Obama. And what makes you so certain that if McCain got elected, that it would be another "4 years of Dubya"?? Crap like that burns me up - you don't know that is how it is going to be and neither do I! But as I mentioned in my earlier post, the Republican party has taken a beating thanks to Dubya thus the remark about Jesus running and still losing. I didn't take any offense to your question. I RARELY post in this forum and a lot of it is that I don't have time to post much anymore anyway (and that goes for any of the other forums on the BBS). But I have also found from past experience in the few times I did post in the D&D as well as reading it, there are always going to be people who will want to change the minds of those who are on the opposite side but from my experience, I have rarely seen that work. Most people already have their minds made up that things are a certain way. There's my perception of reality, your perception of reality, and reality itself which is probably a combination of my perception and your perception. I just hope that the people who are voting for Obama expecting all these major changes and stuff don't get disappointed when it doesn't happen as fast as they want it to happen or happen at all.
I find this thread really interesting due to the fact that right now the republican establishment is running in horror away from McCain and his campaign. Time and time again we see party leaders and the republican media elite coming out and declaring that the campaign is a joke and how there is a real chance the party is going to implode on itself after the election. To the point that they are openly declaring that they will be voting Obama. interesting...
To be honest, even though the more I've looked into her, the more I like - that is the one thing that makes this a tougher decision. But I think honestly either way, we will get a great president.
OK, I call BS...I don't think you were ever going to vote for Obama.....lol.... Good luck with your wasted vote though. DD
i dont understand how you can like her more if you read more about her. unless she gets bad stage fright in interviews which in turn makes her dumb there are some easy questions she has been asked where she was clueless. she could think of NO other supreme court decisions beside roe vs wade NONE but she may be called upon to select judges for that court. the entire notion is ridiculous.
Well, I switched to Obama. Don't tell anyone! I'm barely okay with McCain; Romney was my guy. Palin added less than I expected although I do feel she has been somewhat mistreated. I read somewhere that she felt mis-handled by the campaign. Since I'd never heard of her before her nomination, I can't comment. I'm not crazy about Obama, but I felt it was time to throw open the windows on the American political scene and get some fresh air. I don't believe all the garbage that is floating around the internet about Obama-- although I am curious why he won't release a more formal birth certificate. We all said things we regret in our youth. One time, I even protested against and oil company because I wanted them to build a park where they were planning on putting a service station. I lost that one. Hope I don't regret my vote; I don't think I will... ... but I'm not changing my Republican registration.
I disagree respectfully with OP but the idea of a wasted vote undermines the entire process. I don't think there's no such thing as a wasted vote if you truly believe in what you're voting for. For instance, I knew Ron Paul had no chance back in the primaries, but I voted for him...wasted vote? In some people's eyes, yes, but in mine, absolutely not.
giddy, I've always liked you. Every once in a while, you remind me why. My nomination for "Post of the Year."
That's what keeps the Republicans in office. The people that vote for them in no way, shape or form benefit from having them in power over the Democrats but those people just can't seem to vote for a guy who thinks women should be able to choose what to do with their bodies. That's right, 45 year old men will vote for the guy who screws them hardest based on a moral dilemma they can never face.
i just don't trust palin b/c let's be real, if mccain wins, palin has REAL high chance of winning the presidency in 4 years. and this is the most incompetent politician i have seen.
