i hated when we got all that attention after the 22 game win streak. i prefer to be in the dark, with only the occasional reference on espn. i want to take teams by surprise and when we win it all people will say holy crap the houston rockets won the championship???! like this year, everyone in this forum seems to have tanked the idea that we could win, well i haven't as pessimistic as i usually am, i haven't given up. i have no seen the worst in this team, but have yet to see the BEST. and there is still some time left, we're going to make the playoffs, we probably will be in the mid rank, so we'll be playing someone with a record around ours, and our record doesn't really describe our team well because we have a lot of losses that should have been wins that we just did not come to play, or did not close them out. don't give up on this team until the very last game we play in the season...

This is why I have been on vacation from the Rockets for the last two weeks; I will return briefly to respond and then be on my way. First, to be a "Rockets Fan" is one thing, but to really get excited about the "crap teams" that Les has been rolling out over the last years is another. The personnel decisions under CD whether his fault or not were mostly HORRIBLE and have set the organization way back. Some teams have rebuilt twice or more in the same time period. The Francis and Mobley show, seriously. Les wrote Francis a max contract, and just a few years later teams are paying him not to play. Yao was a good business decision, not the best basketball decision. Great guy, can shoot a mean free throw, but basically is too slow, too unathletic, and too passive to be a centerpiece in the NBA. TMac represented one of the best skill sets in the league, BUT that was yesterday and he was always too passive and lazy. You pair these two together and "build around" them; well, the 2005 (Sura) team was likely the peak of that experiment. Thousands of fans are now saddled up on a dead horse, which explains the frustration on the board. The horse isn't going anywhere.

What now? My preference is to trade Les Alexander, who I think is the ongoing problem with the Rockets. Beyond that, the Rockets will have to pay TMac 40,000,000 to do essentially nothing through next season. By then Yao will be running on fumes. Oh well. If there is any light at the end of the tunnel, it would be Scola, Landry, Brooks, and perhaps Wafer. Likely your new foundation unless Yao has anything left after watching TMac in a suit for two years. What about Ron? Not even he knows, but building around him is a bit scary. The rest are "glue" guys as in stuck to the floor with the exception of Rafer who is probably the worst shooting PG in basketball including little dribblers, H.S., college, and professional.

Well, I hope that cheers you up. And as I have said before, hope springs eternal and with the Rockets, it has to. I will check in later. For now, I think it is time for my therapy session.

Its only basketball. Take a deep breath and calm down. I try not to get negatively emotional over the Rockets because its no use. At the end of the day, I think, why should I feel depressed over a silly basketball game that has no merits to my life except for entertainment? Its not worth it. Friend dies, lose a parent, break up with your girl, got fired, those are things to get depressed over. But basketball? Not really. I guess I just don't take basketball personally like some fans.

Dude, if a team does all that and still lost 70 games, then they obviously aren't playing hard and getting along with each other. You can say JVG's Rockets played hard every game but fans still weren't satisfied and we weren't losing, we played hard and won games. Fans still called for JVG's head. Its more than just playing hard with max effort. Only playoff success will satisfy the fans. Trust me, if this team played like how you described but we were a lottery team, I doubt many fans would be content with that.

    Great post. Enjoy your hiatus.

Good thread too, OP. I dont think anyone is proud to be a Rockets fan right now. We expect too much from guys who will never give it to us.

maybe this break will be good for all the fans, but more importantly, the team and its players' health...

I think the Rocket team to go into Deep Rockets Depression over was the 1982-83 team, who compiled its worst record in franchise history at 14-68 after trading Moses Malone to Philadelphia.

Imagine being an LA Clippers fan. It's frustrating, but it's not that bad.

adelman does not get 4 years. I see no reason to give JVG and Aelman they same amount of time. The team were at different stages in terms of haing the pieces to be contenders.

Total agreement with the OP, except I've been feeling like this for a long time. Ugly, unmotivated basketball has been in this town much longer than this current bunch, and I've been increasingly disgusted by the way we've played down to lower competition and lacked a killer instinct.

I haven't had confidence that we could see such and such team on any given night and win since maybe a brief time during the Sura/Barry season when they were on fire with threes and making that "dirty" underhand shocker hand signal...and for parts of last season's streak.

I've been to the point where I can't even be happy about wins because I expect a major letdown. I've loved this team since Sleepy Floyd days, and I know I must be a true fan because it hurts to see this team lost, inconsistent, directionless, discounted and disrespected.

There should not be any reason why I, as a fan, can stand and cheer and jump up and down for an entire game, and feel like I'm putting in more energy than the players.

Oh, and I've been jealous too. Jealous of teams that rebuilt and are now competitive, and completely past us. Jealous of the teams that consistently pull winners out of the draft. Jealous of medical staffs that seem to be able to keep a majority of their players on the floor. Jealous of teams with rowdy fans that fill the arenas and make noise from tip-off to buzzer. Jealous of teams that have an identity, competitive fire and self respect. Yeah, we could be worse, but sometimes I wonder if the trap of mediocrity isn't a worse fate than the cycle of rebuilding.

So thanks for a chance to vent OP, cause I agree 100%. And for the record, I have argued and fought with Bulls fans here in Chicago for years, defending my Rockets, and I never backed down. I just want to be proud of my team again.

You are a true fan, and I can understand you, everyone here is not having a good time. But don't get too low just because the team is not functioning well, take good care of yourself and wait for our boys to rise!

Piggy, I feel your pain especially when I watch La,Boston, or even Portland play. I like watching ball no matter who play and it hurt when I said the rox can't beat La. When I watch La play, I especially wonder why my team couldn't be built with the concept of getting long versitile players. I mean with kobe barking in their ear and threatning to leave for the clipps, they drafted and kept their lotto pick. They traded a 1 trick pony from Illinois whom they drafted for a multi tool guy like ariza. They have ownership that is into rings not marketing in a foreign country. Then I look at the Blazers. They went to the playoffs for 20 yrs until they bottomed out. They traded away their best players in zach and wallace and took their licks. They drafted Ror and Aldrige in the same draft. They picked up some quality players like Pryzbilla and although it has taken a few yrs, guys like outlaw have started to reach their potential. 3 yrs ago, the rox and blazer were drafting pretty close to each other. 3 yrs later and a team full of talent, their window is open for the next 6 yrs. Where did the Rockets "win now" attitude get us? Old,slow, and unathletic looking to rebuild in a yr or 2. Houston is a bandwagon city, but we see a fraud when we see one. When a franchise is comitted to winning, we will support you, but when you just want to be competitive, then we will sometimey you until you make up your mind. All the influence and marketing of yao want bring rabid fans who will cheer because they think they have a chance.

I want tmac to be durable and motivated like kobe. I want the rox to be relevant. Before, tmac was the man--but had no help. Now, the help is here, but tmac is no longer the man and the pieces of help don't fit together that well and ohh, shane is now ryan bowen too. Lets trade everyone not named yao, scola, landry, brooks, and alston.
