who has been whining? i think it is just in your head.

i don't like that changing number bs either. as for the posturing i think he has done a good job with it. in doing so he has forced his team not to sit on their ass and be comfortable with not doing as much as they can to win. however, the team has allowed lebron too much control and they needed to man up and make better decisions even though they have been under pressure to act.

about lebron not showing up...give me a freaking break. the guy has put together 2 of the greatest play off seasons ever at the age of 24 and 25. his true shooting % is thru the roof and he does EVERYTHING for his team.

what players have banded together to form an awesome team? again...you are jumping to conclusions, but that's what you want to do. further, how does it show the nba is a conspiracy if a team wants to completely gut their roster to have a chance at possibly signing 2 of the 3 top tier guys? also, none of the guys have indicated they are willing to take less to play together.

i know. it's as if the OP wants the players to be completely subservient to the owners. lebron will make whatever team he plays for a crapload of money. i think if you are the primary revenue producer for your company then you should be allowed to make your own decisions. i know it's an insane idea, but i'm a little crazy like that. i don't exactly understand what the OP wants lebron to do and it seems like he is buying way too much into the media hype.

I think they can act in their own interest without leading other teams on with ambiguous statements and deceit. They can atleast be candid about a team's chances so that the said team can plan ahead and make the corresponding adjustments. That is in accordance with "good faith" and " honor". Wouldn't we appreciate it if someone was brutally frank instead of leading you on and taking you for a ride.
The NBA free agents are taking the NBA teams on a ride and its an ego trip.
The disgust will increase as each free agent signs with the chosen team. Fans of the spurned team will feel the rejection and deceit.

I could care less about bosh though, I don't think he even deserves to be mentioned as one of the "BIG" three. In free agency there is the big two of Lebron and Wade then the rest including bosh.

But If your disgusted by this what do we call the nauseating conduct of former players turned general managers, doing inside deals that altered the balance of power in the NBA and shattered any notion of "fair play". Welcome to the real world, its a rat race out there.

This reminds me of how pickup games at crowded gyms work with all the good players trying to get on the same team so they can run longer.

...the problem is the media coverage. Same thing with Tiger a while back - we are all sick of the story but because we live in an environment where 24/7 the media has to have a breaking story, they have to put on experts nightly who have "sources" saying this or that, they have to discuss at length what it meant when Lebron wore a NY hat out in public.

I don't think the players have said/done that much that wouldn't have been said/done in the past but the media coverage of it is just out of control. Also note that it's not the players fault that the GMs/owners generally don't have long term strategies. I mean the season Lebron signed his last deal the Knicks were signing Eddy Curry to way too much money. All these drastic cuts are because owners have done a poor job managing their rosters over time to have flexibility.

Nah, doesn't bother me at all. Let them do what they want to do, that's what free agency is all about. The media's constant hyping and rumor-spreading is a bit annoying, though

I don't care what the players do. Until they are actually are able to create an all-star team that is really unfair, I won't be bothered by it. Besides, it seems unfair that we critizing them for chasing the dollar and not winning...are we critizing them for wanting to win and taking less salary too.

I wouldn't use the word disgusted, but I'm disappointed with how the GMs/owners are handling this. JJ and Gay are gonna be overpaid and the precedent is bad news for GMs who want to pay moneyball. If Morey didn't move up in the draft or buy some 2nd round picks because the price was too high, I'm worried we won't get a FA (not that worried though) or will lose Scola/Lowry to some crappy team with a stupid GM.

I guess I'm disappointed that JJ and Gay are accepting so early. I was thinking that the 1st tier would go first, then 2nd and 3rd tiers would fill in around them, or go to the teams that missed out on the 1st tier. Staying at home this early causes more chaos.

No player in the modern NBA only cares about winning. Not even Jordan, who was the consummate competitor and winner.

Which players have to felt led teams on? I haven't gotten much of a vibe of that during this FA period.

Yup. 24 hour sports coverage on several stations, blogs, and sites, plus up to the minute tweets means you're hearing every speculation and thought unless you filter it out. Prior to the mid 80's your sports coverage was limited to 5 minutes on the nightly news plus whatever your local paper had room to print.

I'm sure the posturing was going on in the 80's and 90's but nobody was shining a spotlight on it...so unless you were involved in the negotiation, or overheard someone talking on their cell at the mall...you could be oblivious to it until there was a deal.

This has to do with the internet culture. Tweets, blogs, fan sites, etc. The media is taking advantage of this. The players are taking advantage of it. Besides, many players grew up in the internet culture. They are quite savvy in using the net to promote themselves. Something guys like Bird, Magic, Jordan, Hakeem could never dream of.

It's them getting all the attention they live for.

When an athlete is a free agent, he controls his future. Once he signs with a team, he's got a contract for x number of years. Whether he agrees with a GM or not.

Exactly. For as much money Lebron has made in Cleveland, Dan Gilbert made far more thanks to Lebron. So yeah, I think players can have leverage and exercise it.

Darko got 5 million a year. Lesser players are not suffering.

Can tell some radio hosts are getting tired of it. But you can't tell players NOT to be friends and not get along with each other.

If they put cameras and coverage on college basketball recruits exploring their options with their buddies, it'd be equally annoying. Just we dont see it

They are just taking advantage. The OP would do the same. As would any
    of us.

That said, the Gay and JJ contracts are the perfect example as to why the CBA needs to change.

Seeing even lower grade players get huge money like Darko has made things even crazier for the big free agents. In a way I think Boston and LA started this whole thing with Gasol going to LA and the big three in Boston these guys feel like they have to have a stacked team to have any real chance of winning a ring.

Having one star or even two it seems is just not enough when you've got Gasol, Kobe, Odom, Bynum in the West. In the East Garnett, Pierce, Rondo, and Allen. NBA is becoming more and more like MLB where teams like Boston and New York dominate with huge payrolls and the rest are just also rans.
