Key word: "used" to. Things are different now, much different. I-10 is the smoothest major freeway in Houston now.
No it isn't. I just went to Dallas 2 weeks ago. Left at 10 a.m. and it was just as bad. Where the f*** are you talking about?
... Then there was probably an accident. I'm on I-10 going towards downtown 4-5 times a wk in the morning and at 10am, you can can go ~50mph+ pretty consistently until you get near Studemont before I-45 exit where it slows down a bit.
hey, neighbor. i'll echo your comments. on an average day, i can leave my home and be in the parking lot connected to the civil courts building within 20 minutes. shorter than that in the summer time.
Yale/Heights blvd. to I-10 East to 45 N. Should I have taken Shepherd all the way to 45? I think not.
That is basically the only section where I-10 into downtown is bad (starts to slo down around Durham/Shephard and then gets worse as you go in. They are still working on that section, though, so that is why it is erratic and slows things down. Even still there are some days where it is no trouble at all. In general, though, most people are talking about I-10 outside of the loop being better because 5 years ago that is where it was way worse. I pick it up at Bingle or Wirt and have no trouble going into town at 9 am. Even thinking of you Wilcrest people makes me sad.
There are certain "sections" of the Katy freeway even from Katy that are "slow" and "faster" because there are people merging or just being dumb enough to be going slow in the fast lane... if you pick your spots right, you won't need to step on your break at all while maintaining a 40 to 60 mile per hour speed into downtown... I do it all the time. I am switching lanes and merging onto faster lanes and don't have much trouble. With the small stretch of construction from Shepherd to 45 right now, it has slowed me down a bit, but not much. I take the HOV overpass from Taylor into downtown all the time now that it's open to all passenger cars.
I-10 between the loop and the beltway is far better than it was a few years ago. It is rare to run into traffic in that area now. I agree it can still be bad between the loop and 45, especially during rush hour. Even though they completely remade the entrance ramp to 45 south, that still seems to be the one area that screws everything up.
It was easy breezy coming into work. All of the traffic is going inbound from east to west. Awesomesauce! I even arrived early to work and that never happens.
