The one thing I've always felt was that the Texans had no identity, and no legacy. It just felt like the McNairs took every possible path to being the most milquetoast, generic, SAFE brand in the NFL because it would require the least amount of risk in their decision-making. Whether it was in the team name, the colors, and even the coaching and management, every single hire or decision outside of a few has come from a place of fear. They have an inability to have conviction in the decisions they make. I feel like we are finally turning the page on that style of leadership from the very top, and I hope it stays that way. Hiring DeMeco gives us an identity. Something we can be proud of. And I think that's proven by the fact that all the former players we held in highest regard have finally come back to the team, and are embracing it for the first time. It's like the McNairs have finally woken up to the fact that this city USED to be proud of their original football team, regardless of the results on the field, and it's time they bring that feeling back to the fans that have given so much to them.
I would say, the last time this team had an identiy was when it had good / sometimes great defense with multiple individuals who were fun to follow. (as much as we want to forget them....the Letterman Jacket years). I maybe mixing in some of the names from others years...... but ~2010-2012: -JJ Watt, Demeco Ryans, Brian Cusching, Shaun Cody, Conor Barwin, Antonio Smith, Whitney Merciless, Brooks Reed, KJack.... The corny "On the nose" with Shaun Cody series.... I was all about the team those years. Since then, with Foster, Hopkins, Schaub, Watt etc all gone..... this team has had no identity but being a poorly ran franchise and what appeared to be an dumbass owner. I'm glad we've had these years of the stadium finally being empty.....ownership may finally be taking a hint.
The Bulls on Parade years were a blast. Hopefully DeMeco brings that energy back, but more importantly I hope he brings winning back.
