The other "MELO" threads aren't about if we thought our Rockets could be better with him?

Meh. I clicked something I don't remember in your silly multiple-option poll.

DM built a great squad around Yao Ming. The big fella just couldn't stay healthy long enough for us to see the potential.

If we didn't give up to much for him, I would say we would be.

With Melo we would be a little better right now. If this group of Rockets could bring back the heart they showed in previous years, with the addition of Mello, then they could potentially overachieve and be great. But the chance of either happening is not too likely. And we still need a 5.

Try again, Denver has a very strong bench, and was rated 2nd most effective in the NBA by John Hollinger just over a month ago (Houston ranked 5th).

Ty Lawson and JR Smith would start for a handful of teams in the league, Al Harrington's a tough cover at 6'9'' with 3-point range, Birdman's a menace in the paint, and rookie Gary Forbes has proven to be a very nice find.

Also, Linas Kleiza was an ace off the pine for 2-3 years. He and JR formed a lethal scoring combination. Denver's had a strong bench for years.

If we got Melo, then Morey must also have someone like Camby or Nene lined up to come here to play center. Morey may not have the mythical ability to get superstars to come, but he is not an idiot. So we would be significantly better than Denver. Also, with Melo being a rental, our other players would realize that this is the "big chance" and likely play a lot harder since it's a one-and-done deal.

Its starting lineup includes Melo, Billups, and Nene. If it indeed has the 2nd strongest bench, then it should be one of the best teams in the NBA right now. Instead, Denver's on pace to win 45 games. That is Mobley/Stevie era win production right there.

Since I don't watch Denver, I don't know the reason for this. Perhaps the starting lineup's hugely overrated. Perhaps starters play so many minutes that while the bench is "efficient", it's not really useful. Either way, the roster's very flawed or the Melo mess is really killing them. I mean, that roster's so much more stacked than ours, yet only 5 games ahead in the standings.

The current Nuggets would be better than the current Nuggets if they didn't all know their superstar isn't going to be there soon.

Billups' #s are down, and he's turning the ball over at the highest rate of his career.

Denver's frontcourt has been playing injury musical chairs all season long. Kenyon Martin's battled knee troubles, and his rebounding and scoring #s have suffered, and Birdman was sidelined for an extended period of time.

On paper, they're stacked, but they just can't stay healthy. Look at what they accomplished in '08-'09 with a healthy team... 54 wins and a trip to the WCF.

Nobody can say because nobody knows what Denver wants for him in return. It all depends on what we gave up as much as got back.
