There isn't a contender who has 10 mil to offer. If he leaves us, and it's looking increasingly likely he does, he's going to get the MLE and nothing more.
It's possible that he will shoot for over 10 million, not get it, and end up with only a Bonzi Wells-type deal. I'm hoping we can keep him for that kind of money. As long as he does not get over 10 million, I think he will be a steal.
Depending on how he looks once he comes back, I'd be willing to give him a 2 yr contract for 25mil, or 3 years for 30. That, of course, depends if he can actually play anymore. It also depends if we can get another good player in the offseason. If picking Tracy back up means no one else, then hell no, I'd never take him.
Exactly....in fact, the stunt that Iverson pulled with Memphis will have a HUGE inpact on Tracy's future.
I think so he's worth 150 + million. But resigning? Only if we make a splash in the playoffs and Adelman and him are better. And other teams dont serioulsy pursuit him like NY. ....oh and if he does DD has to definitely eat crow if McGray comes back like Orlando T-mac
Without question he must take a major cut if he remains in the NBA We must end up this season with the ability to sign one more decent free agent and the chance to trade for a player of starter level. NO MORE than 7 mil yr
If McGrady comes back like Orlando T-Mac (who we haven't seen in years), I will take a photograph of myself wearing a dress and pretending to fellate a T-Mac Fat Head. You may then post it all over this forum with whatever caption you like anytime I say anything.
I only want him back if he can somehow get younger by 5 or 6 years, and is willing to play for $6MM per.
Iverson WAS pretty popular in Philly when they were seeing better days. It looked like total desperation when they signed him recently. McGrady on the other hand likely couldn't go back to Orlando or even Toronto unless had for a bargain.
Next summer, Tracy Mcgrady will take his market value or retire...just like 98% of professional athletes.
Yeah you're right. But I'm talking more about how Iverson couldn't take a backseat and felt that he is the AI of old so he needed to start (kind of hurts seeing my boy going down this path, one of my favorites in the modern era) I think teams will look at AI's "retirement" after one game of coming off of the bench and taking a smaller role and look at Tracy's drama filled career and pass on him. You never know though, some team looking to sell tickets will probably sign him but I don't know why some guys are thinking that a "contender" would risk their on and off court chemistry by signing Tracy. I think most GM's and coaches realize that basketball goes well beyond statistics.
One of the reasons why we can't let him play. It's contract year, so he's going to do anything to showcase himself than can potentially break our team chemistry ( hardcourt). He may be a changed player now but knowing his past attitude, recent past, he's still not thinking about the team. It's all Me-Mac. So I doubt if he would take a pay cut if he's able to score 30 pts in one game, even it's just for one game. I love the guy's talent, if he is willing to accept a different role in this team, it's going to be fun to watch.
Who is going to have the available cap space that can pay him more than the MLE? Of those teams, who want's a broken down veteran on the downside of his career. When you factor those two together, I bet his best offer will be right around the MLE.
I don't think it will be that limited. Iverson is 4 years older than McGrady and his advantage was always his speed since he was so short. One of McGrady's biggest advantages is his height, which he will retain. That said, he'll be taking a pay cut after this year no matter what. No one's going to touch him for anywhere near max. He could get $7-$9M, but not from us. I think he wants out of here, and we want him out of here.
I would be shocked if some team offered McGrady more than a one year deal. There is no way in my opinion that McGrady gets anywhere near the 6-7 million that some of the posters are suggesting. There is just too much history, too many missed games, too many "injuries."
